Cool My LHS...

...sells scale jets. VERY nice!!! Bottom of the line Baby Boomerang runs about $4500, and a scale all up very detailed jet of say an F-100D can go as high as $33,000. If interested in the high end of the hobby, it takes about 4-5 months to complete and I think there is a waiting list.

You could probably pick up something used (sport jet) for around 3k.
I personally would never buy a used engine (turbine) as you don't know how it was trated...ie. sandy operations and hot starts blah blah blah.
Bottom line--a good pile of $$$ will get you something nice.

Yeah Terry! The smell, sound and speed sold me. I have scale jets... not sport, that widens my options to fly at jet-togethers and scale fly-ins.

BTW, Flying helis made me a better planker... It cleaned up a few areas in my skills that needed attention.

Of course AMA has adopted a 200 MPH speed limit for RC aircraft.

There are turbine engines under $2K now. The prices are coming down.

Oh Yeah!

The smell of used JP-4 and a rubber mask way early in the morning!

I'll one-up you guys though, gimme the sound of an inertial starter and a big round motor coughing up it's morning wind-up.

Seriously though, did one of you mention going Russia and flying a Soviet Warbird? Gotta share that one, off topic of course.

I do know that if you want to fly jets, you'd best get in with the AMA, get your turbine waiver and beef up the insurance. We live in a litigous (sp?) society. Things are bad enough with park-flyer speeds, and I am already extremely picky about where I fly my little electri cuisinarts. Don't wanna end up the subject of a 20-20 episode, right?

Well, i'm in the process right now of purchasing 2 turbine jets. One is a Ziroli F9F Panther kit, the other is a Yellow Aircraft FA-18 twin. Gonna use the ziroli for my turbine waiver again and just to have fun with. then sell it off and get the FA-18 done and flying (its a long term SCALE project).

I went to Ukraine and flew the L-39, Su-25 and Mig-29.

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning. And the the coffee cup to prove it (Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola sells them).
