IS there some place I can down load the sheet that shows the bolt placement that comes with the conversion kit.

The print that lists the bolts in the lower left is small and very hard to read. I would like to blow it up some and print it out.

Thanks

On the first page of this thread, right click on the image showing the bolt locations, copy and paste it to a photo program where you can print it out larger.

Nice blue canopy. I just got a pink set for mine. Should be able to see it in the air. I just can't start it until I get time off.

It has been for a couple of weeks now. Several people have then built and flying. I'm hoping fly mine for the first time next weekend in Boston.

Here is where you order from . . . . . .
www.gas-powered-helicopters.com

Sorry my bad, did not see where you were asking about the Comp version vs the normal 700 kit.

Yes . . . .

A gator stator is not required for anything.

I use an Align Gov and just use the Align gov senor hot glued to the carbon engine mount plate right up next to the fanwheel.

I am not sure of all the differences, but the conversion kit was designed for the original Goblin, not the competition.

The one main thing with the Competition Ver is the drive belt and drive pully is bigger (taller) and it will not fit in the conversion. One other difference is the landing gear mounts, they are platice on the competition ver.

well if demand supports it, they can be made for the 630, 700 and 700/770 competition models including graphite frames if thats what people wanted.

Hi Carey,
Please make the conversion kit for the 700 COMPETITION ASAP. I have a Whiplash Gasser which is now out of commission d/t/ unavailability of gears & parts. I'm dying to build a Goblin gasser but prefer the Competition version. Thank you so much for your commitment & contributions to gasser helis.
Any guess to how soon the conversion kit for 700 Comp. be available?

My Whiplash Gasser had an intermittent clutch slippage d/t/ expansion of clutch bell as it gets hot during flight ( as explained by Jeff at MA) which caused intermittent tail wagging. Has anyone experienced this issue with the Goblin gas conversion?

Why are you so hot for the 700 comp. You can get a normal 700 kit and add a HPS head, for about $720.00. A 700 comp kit is $1065.00. That's a over $350 in saving.

the parts design for the 630 and 700/730 competition are all done, its just a matter of making parts and assembling the kits...........assuming there is demand......they can't be made in lots of 5.........

as far as clutch slipping, the Whiplash clutch has a steel liner pressed in. The bell is made of aluminum. If the clutch gets hot under heavy loading, the bell expands faster than the liner and in some cases was apparently slipping. The GG conversion doesn't use a liner, the shoes run against the bell housing so that scenario can't happen.

they finally told everyone what the real issue was with this when they announced that they were closing. Talking to Jeff personally, he told me that he had never seen the liner in the bell where the shoes grabbed slip. what they did see slip was the OWB in the top of the clutch bell. that however is not what causes that tail twitch and the chirping noise.

all of that is caused by the sprag OWB not being able to withstand the RPM to which it was spun. it was a bad design from the start, it just happened to work well until the sprags got a little worn. Jeff's own words "the only way to fix the whiplash is to move the OWB to the main gear (where it should have been from the start)"...I quote. many people have been able to fix this issue by eliminating the OWB with machined bushings. the heli will still autorotate because the clutch shoes will release the bell when in TH, but it makes me nervous to think if they got stuck what would happen to the motor.

I was just wondering, after my first tank and a half there was some black dust around the top of the heli, thinking that it is from the belt or the main gear breaking in, is this normal? Everything seems to run fine and is smooth in the air.

Hey DaweMD,

Most likely the main gear to pinion, this is common.

Problems have been reported when this stuff gets into the electric motor......so not a problem for us
