Main gear issue
Hi all, 1st build on an Outrage 90, not a bad build. My problem is it would seem the main gear with the one way hub has the ablility to slide down towards the tail gear. I started to hear this odd noise on it's madien and found this...I've attached a few pics to try and show the problem. Any tips would be great as to why this does this?

If I am right, the bearing in the hub slipped out in your case (see pic 1 for the right one).
The lower bearing block can be adjusted up & downwards. In my case, it needed to be at its highest position to eliminate any play of the main & drive gears, and to ensure that the bearing seats in the hub completely. (see pic 2) After you rebuild it, I bevlieve you will find that the main gear & pinion are at the same level (see pic 3) Hope this helps. Stanley |

I though it was because the lower bearing block moved down as well however I did not have any up and down play on the main shaft. The one way sleeve was tight between both blocks but it looks like there is nothing to prevent the hub from sliding down on the sleeve..

It is because the bearing does not seat in the one way hub completely. Take out the bearing and see if there is something inside the hub preventing the correct assembly. Then put the bearing back into the hub. The internal diameter of the hub could be little bigger than the bearing's outer diameter, which could make it hard to put them together. Do not use hammer or you might not get the bearing out again...

I can push the bearing back in fine and in doing so moves the main gear back where it's supose to be. It will all sit flush and everything is perfect. However once the heli hovers for a few min it slides back down on its own.

Uh, it shouldn't be like that. Did you have the main shaft bearing blocks wrong facing? The middle bearing block should face down and the lower block should face up.

Yip I checked 3 times. The one way sleeve fits perfect in-between both bearing blocks and has no lateral play.

After checking mine, I am guessing the problem is your hub. Normally, the shoulder of drive gear (pic 1) should withstand the hub bearing (pic 2), thus the hub cannot slide down on the sleeve. Is there anything missing in the hub? I've encountered some parts assembled by factory that accidently missed something.

That's what I'm leaning towards...but not sure if that would be a proper fix.

But I was wrong. Based on my inspection, the part that keeps the distance between main and drive gear is the LOWER BEARING in the hub. As the shoulder of drive gear withstands the lower bearing, the main gear cannot slide down towards the drive gear. So basically, as long as the lower bearing is fixed by CA, problem will be solved. To be more safe, CA the upper bearing in the hub as well. |

Yes I looked at again last night and I would have to CA the bottom and top bearing in place to prevent the one-way hub from sliding down. I just find it odd (that I can see) that I'm the only one with this problem.

Well I got 3 flights on her now, got the v-bar dialed in and man she flies great. I did use bearing thread lock on both the upper and lower bearing of the one way hub. So far so good, no movement. Thanks for help
