Default Ploughing the field....

Hi.

I just tried to fly my Beam Avantgarde to China via the short route ;-)

I simply *had* to fly because the weather was great, but first I had to do other
domestic stuff. When I was ready to fly, it was getting dark and it seems
like my glasses doesn't really fit me anymore. (we know where he's going - right?)

So, on the second battery set in low light conditions while doing backwards
flips, I got sloppy, misjudged the attitude and piled it in *inverted* at full pitch.

Fortunately it's a ploughed field and the battery connectors let go right away.

But all three swash servos need new metal gears, canopy and blades fore and aft
are shot plus the tail boom is slightly bent. I broke the main shaft right off, the
feathering shaft is bent a lot and also the tail feathering shaft and the plastic tail blade
holders should be replaced. I'll give it a new belt as well. A lot of bearings need to
be replaced as well as some small stuff.

But I have a cache of parts, so I need to buy just tail blades, bottom plate, 3 x servo
metal gears, tail hub and a canopy. The Beam itself is intact - it's a sturdy bird alright.

Well, winter is the time for service checks anyway.

Cheers
Erik

Damn! I'm amazed the main shaft snapped off! Crashes can be very strange like that though.

This time of year the low light is the biggest danger for me, I have to keep it close and fly conservatively.

Anyway, I hope you're back in the air soon.

I've not crashed the Beam that hard yet, but other full speed earth faults I've had in the past have never done anything like that to the main shaft. It almost looks like a stress fault.

It just shows how much power these electric helis have...

Well, no more Graupner DES servos for me.

I have been very satisfied with them, and I had already bought
new metal gears, when I saw the top case had damaged
axle holes. And the only spare parts are arms and gears.

That's it - I now have two servos I can't use - they are hereby
disqualified!

I had two nice second hand Align ds610, so I just bought a third.
And from now on they'll be the ones I use unless I get a nice offer
on something else. After all, Fastlad has the Nexus 611 swash servo
at a great price, but alas - no spares. And as Hazts seem quite
unreachable, those servos are out also!

Cheers
Erik
