Default SK360 Firmware Upgrade 1.10

Hi All,

The next firmware upgrade has been posted to the Skookum website. This one adds dual servo-endpoints, and if you have an extra channel you can use bank-switching & remote hiller gain.

There are a few other minor improvements, such as smoother collective motion on super-servos, and a tweak that should help with tail bobbing (altho I suspect most tail bobbing out there is too-soft head dampers and/or the bell dial needs trimming)

I did the upgrade quick, but I should have read the manual first

the upgrade will reset the gyro so need to save the profile first but the new firmware is in new format, also, there seems to be some adjustment to be re-done ... such as the servo trim and the control trim is dimmed.

I suggest to jot down the advance tab info on a piece of paper first and I just email Art on this. Once clear all this, I need to rewrite the quick reference on my website

Hi,

Yes you need to save your profile *before* doing the update! I put a note on the website where you download it about that.

The "control inputs" area is still there, it's just locked. You can easily unlock it from the Options menu. The reason I locked it is that too many new users were getting confused by that section vs the servos section, so the manual has been changed to recommend they set their control reversing flags in their radio.

Just flew the new firmware a little while ago. The tail bobbing tweak seems to have helped my setup just a bit, although there wasn't really much bobbing on my setup to begin with so all is good there. The new bank function looks good as well, I'll have to try it out. Overall nice job with the updates Skookum!

> What tail bobbing ?

With some helicopters the tail will bob up and down a few times after a sharp elevator change. Normally it just means the Bell gain isn't quite right, but on some helis its hard to get rid of. I'm going to do a bunch of testing on the issue here when (if) it (ever) stops raining.

Best guess for now though is it just means the head damping is too soft, although rev 1.10 was changed a bit to help out. My trex 450 does it now, but if I remember right it didn't before when it had really hard dampers. I had switched back after discovering the blade-throwing feature that really hard dampers can have (snapped feathering shaft). The G5 hardly bobs at all, with the same firmware etc, nor does the X50.

Thanks for the update..love the +/- servo throw adjustment. Now have a perfect level swash top to bottom.

I'm going to venture out of mountains tomorrow and fly down at sea level. Totally blown away by the power increase up here in the thin air...expect to blow my socks off down in the thick stuff!!!!

I just absolutely love this setup on my 700

What are the advantages of the bank-switching & remote hiller gain?

Let say if you want a more gentle flight at normal and a crazy response for idle up, banks are there for you. remote hiller gain .... have you ever need to land your heli and adjust the gain on your tail gyro?

Thank you, Skookum

I have upgraded the software and firmware, and I have fine tuned the heli tonight.

Hopefully I will have a go tomorrow, if the weather is OK.

Love the new menus...

Now I just have to find out how the heck I should program the radio to make the bank-funktion work . Have a Futaba 7C.

you need to assign a spare channel (aux2 for eg.) in your switch menu to follow the flight mode switch , then and set the endpoints in the normal lower level menu for elev pitch and throttle, rudder,gyro,aux1 ,aux 2.

do the upgrade
plug in lead from skookum channel 4 to rx chanel 7
in the radio find governor setup
assign 2 position switch
change from INH to ON
change UP to 25
change DN to 75
go to end point menu channel 7
with switch up change end point to 79
with switch down change to 65

On my 7c this gives a hillier of 50 when switch is up or down and means that you know that a hillier of 50 is always 75 or 25 and gives a good reference point.

if on your radio it gives a diferent hillier no. then change endpoints untill it does

now a change to the UP or DN figures in governor will change the hillier

hope this helps

>What would be the DX 7 settings?

First set your SK360 to activate the external gain channel, on the Control tab.

Then start your DX 7 in "model select mode", then hit scroll down to find "input select". Then check that "Aux 2" is set to "Aux 2".

Then connect the Aux2 output from your Spektrum receiver to the A4 port of your Sk360.

Now start your DX7 normally, and the Aux 2 switch on the top right should switch banks. The endpoints for Aux2 on the "Travel Adjust" page in the DX7 will set the stability gain for each bank, in the same way as the hiller dial before.

Thanks alot

So that mean that you get two "Advanced" tabs, where you can disable the pot dials for both???

I don't like using the dials on the gyro...

LOVE MY SK !!! but to be constructive in a small way ...

i agree dont like having to touch the gyros at all.
i have flicked that little switch 15 times just today with a plastic tipped driver, its not looking good long term...

on the dx7 setup subject ,.

watching the Finless video's on dx7 in handling GOV's ... i was thinking ...
if your not sure what i am on about please watch the finless GV1 setup video 1 ..

he assigns aux 2 to the flight mode switch .... BUT
its a three position switch and the SK only has 2 modes ...

so cant we get around this if we , use the subtrim on aux2 to move the centre point
and set the travel adjust so the bank mode 1 is in st1 and normal . and the second bank is on st2

it would be easy for me to set it up on st1 and st2 , but not sure what it would see if it was in normal mode....

bummer.

then allowing your banked settings to follow your HS , as i run a good governer .

and run 2400 in normal , 2800 in st1 and 3000 in st2 so i really need it to at least tie 2 flight modes together and have one for detail ,and one for speed and agility ..

i am noticing that the gain to work best need to be shifted with marked different HS ..

is this possible and can it be made to work .,?
.

this is the angle i am coming from ... i could see it being preferable , than having to switch 2 switches ever time i go into idle up.

Thanks Skookum for the features , now FREAKS !! how do we custom mix the DX7 to best use em !!!

Alot of questions and good answers in this post.

I have another question:

Is there any way that you can see if your which bank-switching-mode you are in (advanced1 or advanced2) without flying the helicopter. Can you see if you confiured it right in the software or on the gyro...
