RPM sensor is included when you purchase the eSc...its in the same bag...

which FBL gyro are you using? i got great sucess using mini Vbar with HW 100a governor.

is very easy to set...

you can check on mr mel vdo on how to set the governor on a vbar

hello,
i'm mostly using vbar. doesn't the vbar governor require a sensor connected to the power lead? i was told so and that is why i've never used the vbar governor, only the CC one.
also, i was never able to find a comprehensive video on how to set up the vbar governor.

I used a Hyperion sensor with the HW 120HV soldered to one of the motor leads. The setup for Vbar governor is pretty simple...even with autorotation bailout. Watch this and if you don't understand it 100% then watch it again.

thanks a lot!
the video is really enlightening. just like the CC, would you know if the vbar governor warns the user when they select a very low/high hs? i'm not sure the video mentions this.
thanks again.

I dont think so.. u shud calculate the gear ratio n see the manual of your heli..make sure you key in the correct data into vbar governor . You can see your headspeed on the bench when you do the test. Increase your throttle curve if not enough speed and vice versa.

Make sure the motor poles also key in correctly to get an accurate hs

hello,
in another video mr. mel says when using a vbar governor (any external governor to be exact) the ESC should be set to "airplane mode".
this is to ensure the ESC will provide instant response to the external governor.
do you guys agree?
thanks.

I used airplane mode with my old HW 120A HV with decent results. The only reason I stopped using the HW 120A is because of the tail kick problem that I just couldn't solve. I tried everything (I think) but just couldn't get it right.

I'm using a new HW 100A LV V3 and the startup on it is smoother than any other ESC I've used (CC, YGE, YEP). Hopefully this same trait will appear in the HW 160A HV that is soon to be released.

The older esc's are notorious for not being able to update fast enough, the kick is because vbar was trying to change the headspeed faster than the esc could respond. So your smooth curve turns into a a blocky set of steps, then vbar tries to accomodate.. and it all goes downhill (so to speak ;p).

One of the specific aims of v3 was to address that issue, and they continually tout the much more powerful microprocessor running the esc.

If you don't have the rpm sensor connected to anything, can you still use the governor function on the HW?

You only need an rpm sensor for an external governor if your FBL unit has one. You don't need a sensor for the internal governor but the governor isn't very good on the older HW ESCs.

hello tt,
when i bought a compass 6hv kit, i received a 70a hw ESC along with a sensor. because of that, i always thought HW ESCs would always need an external sensor.
if it isn't necessary, i wonder why such sensor in the combo.

hello guys,
i was wondering how to set a desired head speed on a hobbywing 120 hv ESC governor.
my experience is limited to CC ESCs and we use a PC software to do the settings we need.
thanks.

If I want use the governor of my FBL unit, must I buy an external RPM sensor with the Platinum-120A-HV?

Is the Platinum-120A-HV have an internal RPM sensor?

I never tried using the internal governor but from what I've read it's pretty crappy. Do you have the manual?

Yes, you'll need an RPM sensor because the 120A does not have an internal RPM sensor.

I was using the hw v3 100a esc governor and to me it was very very good. I couldnt distinguish it from the vbar gov, for example. Unfortunately something made the esc lose the settings and the governor stopped working. Im waiting for hw to reply the email i sent them about this issue. So id say it is good when it works.

Thought you were talking about the hobbywing 120 hv. Yes, I've heard the 100A V3 governor is outstanding. I haven't tried it on my Goblin 500s since I only use VBar gov.

I was talking about 120hv, but ended up buying a 100a v3.

Aha. OK, so why were you using the internal governor if you've got VBar gov? Just curious...
