Default Nano or mSR Landing Gear Pin Repair Tip

I've had the pin snap off my landing gear twice now... so I tried to come up with a way to repair it. Gluing the broken piece back on didn't seem like a viable solution... I had to replace the pin with something else.

A piece of paper clip!

In this photo, you can see the paper clip piece I cut/bent for the repair and my broken gear. The thread you see wrapped around the pin was a previous repair wher the cross bar under the pin had broken.

I tacked the paper clip piece in place with a bit of CA and some kicker to make it dry fast. Then I wrapped it with thread to lash it to the gear. Then, because the new metal pin wasn't thick enough, I wrapped IT in thread, until I had the right thickness.

Next, I coated all the thread in CA and hit it with some kicker. I had to file down the pin a bit to make it fit, because the CA made it a little thicker than it had been,

I haven't flown it yet, so I don't know how it's going to hold up... I'll post updates.

After flying and crashing a few times, the repaired gear does tend to come off easier that the stock (even in flight once). But also one very hard crash knocked the gear off, but did not break it.

So far, so good...

I have jabbed it with xacto knife and wedged it out. I also put vaseline on the LG pins and canopy pins so they dont stick.

I've had pretty good luck digging it out with an x-acto knife. Both times one got broken off in the frame it only took me a minute to get it out.

Use a sharp & pointy X-acto knife, just pry it out. Wear goggles in case you snap the point of the blade off... also no wrist slashing please!

Find your smallest self tapping screw. Drill a pilot hole. Screw in the screw most of the way. Pull out the screw and pin with your small pliers. Make sure the screw is not so big it turns the pin into a rawlplug that never comes out.

I use this method to get the locating pin out of my 450 Pro tail.

with these micro flyers, its ALWAYS helpful to have a set of numbered drills 1 to 60 or so..
This covers 0.010 to 0.090 or something close like that.. Amazing what you can accomplish with this set. and yeah you might want to consider procuring a pin vice.. A good quality one that spins true. like a Starrett. With these two things you will shake your head wondering how you got along without them.. A good magnifying jewelers loupe is also a great addition - so you can see what your doing.. A 0.01 drill is tiny... at least a 2x magnification.

I usually use a needle from which I curve the point slightly with some pliers. Heat the needle point up, hook it in the pin with angle and than just let cool down. After that you grab the needle with pliers and pull straight out

Since you are in Toronto, Princess Auto has a decent hand drill with a few bits. You can also find more smaller bits at most hobby stores, which I highly recommend. I have an assortment of those mini bits of all different sizes as it will come in handy one day.

Jeweller's Precision Drill

Also, eBay has some very affordable pin vise w/ bits sets:

I have been sporting that repair on my V1 mcpx for a very very very long time now. It will last long. But each crash will open up the hole in the frame more and more. I put black nail polish on the bent paper clip to stiffen up the fit. CA works too.

But I finally ordered some of these.http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Blade-NANO-CP...#ht_500wt_1288

+1 for the tip

I've been doing that with mCP-X for ages. Now even have two more skids someone else throw I 'fixed' it that way and they are now waiting for me to kill existing skids...
