Default E5 Thoughts

Friend had one at the field the other day. I kinda liked it and so I looked it up on here
Seems like guys love their E5s here. But really that's to be expected as all the other
Brand dedicated forums usually do.
My friend had a 6s setup but seems like that's no good from reading on here,
What I really want to know is an unbiased opinion of the ups and downs of this heli on a 6 s setup

I have the 6s setup and love it. I have owned many brands, by far my favorite. I have over 500 flights on it and other than pre-flight checks, no issues. I just can't say enough good things about this helicopter on 6s.

I run mine on 6s and love it, too. It's got more than enough power and flies great.

Love my e5 on 6s. Blast to fly and the ease of one flight pack is really nice.

Ok but do you have to make your own battery tray??
Also what are the up and downs period??
I will be coming from the Trex 550 and the G500.
How does it stack up against those two?

The ups are:
  1. With 6S there's just one battery pack per flight.
  2. The E5 is extremely durable. I have had some crashes with mine that looked like it should have destroyed everything, only to have a few parts needing replaced.
  3. Great presense in the air.
  4. 10mm main shaft, 8mm head axle, 25mm tail boom, helical cut main gear, beefy TT drive gears.
  5. Amazing support community
I use this rubber orange pad http://www.super-skids.com/Orangepad.htm on mine with two of the Scorpion batter straps and no battery tray.

I haven't owned the other helicopters you mention but I do know I have read posts from guys that did have a TREX 550, prior to the E5, and they are very happy with the E5.

Downs. Um... maybe that I ignore my E7 at times because the E5 is just so handy to pack around and fun to fly.

You can make your own battery trays but I'm using the ones from Ralph at www.fblrotors.com. He provides great Synergy support and has some great aftermarket items like the battery tray and the his titanium turnbuckles (very easy to adjust on the heli using the included wrench).

Lots of ups for me...the biggest was the ease of stretching to a 600 if I wanted too later on. I went with a 120HV ESC just so I'd have the option later on and Ralph makes stretch kits with pre-cut booms, torque tubes, and rods. Not really too many downsides for me...it's easy to work on and I can get parts easily.

I can't really compare it to the T-Rex 550 or the G500 since I haven't owned or flown either.

Hi,
Has someone already flown the discontinued amazing trex 600 esp? does e5 stability resemble it?
Some helis, like logo 600 and trex 600 esp, are tall. So, because of the pendulum effect, easier for me to fly. How is e5, please?
thanks.

Do you mind maybe elaborating a little bit? I've been flying my 6S E5 for just over a year now and I love it.

BTW, Ready to Crash, My E5 has almost 3X the number of flights on it as my other helicopters over the same time period. I love the convenience of having 1 6S battery and the size of the helicopter is a perfect compromise between having great presence in the air yet being small enough to tote around easily. I can't compare it to the Align helicopters you mentioned but it is an extremely smooth and stable helicopter that advanced my flying skills farther than any of the others that I've had. It's just been a very confidence inspiring helicopter, at least for me.

My E5 is getting ready to go away as well.

It is a VERY solid heli with a smooth stout drivetrain and it took care of all my quality control and design complaints with my TREX 550. Out of the box it needs no upgrades and it is very reliable.

There is nothing wrong with it, but it is a bit heavy for my taste and doesn't fly like my Forza/Protos/TDR. It has shorter flight times than I like after I bump the head speed up enough for it to be more responsive.

If you like a heavier feel heli there is nothing wrong with it at all.

I have another friend who had an E5 who now flies a 550SX and says it will fly more like my other helis so that is probably the direction I'll be going.

Once again the E5 is a very solid reliable smooth flying heli and I have had no problems with mine. My priorities have just shifted a bit.

I see you have a similar signature content to myself, except you have the X4 and I have the X5.

I agree entirely with your thoughts on the E5, too. A great bit of kit.

Default to 6s ..or not to 6s...that is the question.

well, I have to say I luv this machine ,...not only for it's solid build but great flying characteristics.

I have both e5 and an e5 stretch...as well as their bigger brother th e7.

as far as the 6s debate...it really is preference...on 6s you can fly it smooth and slow ..being that it's a tad heavier than a trex,...if I'm not mistaken...or pick up the H/S and it transforms into a flying demon.

the upside for flying on 6s..you can fly a single pack,...and lucky for me I have several and can interchange with my e7,..I can also interchange parts within the three helis as most are compatible.

if you stretch it ,.you can fly slow mo,....I'll fly my single 5000mah or 4500mah packs for a supper slow headspeed,...nothing wild or crazy ...just relaxing ,..and it's steady ,..no weird wobbles like some may encounter at low speeds.

I've even seen where pple will fly 12s on the unstretched e5..that's the luxury of being able to custom this heli to your liking.

only gripe might be that running on 6s it tends to run a bit hotter than my 12s setup but really it's not that big of deal it performs fantastic.

good luck with whatever you choose.

take care, stay safe.
