Default How to determine YGE software version?

Hey guys

I have one of the first batches of the Xxtreme (Feb 12) and am still having problems with my YGE. I've had it sent to Mikado but am unsure whether they've really updated the device. As I'm still having issues with it (the ones where it's not starting up all the times), I'm suspecting they haven't.

Also, do you know of a better way of attaching the canopy? My original canopy is falling apart because of the grommets getting loose during flight. I didn't find anything like the rc booya quick release mounts for the logo 800, are there any? Or did they improve the stock canopy?

Thanks!
Bernhard

the software version is written on the caps with a fine tipped sharpie.

Old software is version 25 , new version is 27

My canopy I have a piece of Velcro across the back to keep the the halves tight.

Canopy toast now as it went in this morning

I'm sorry to hear you crashed your logo. Hope it wasn't too bad and she's up in the air soon!

Thanks for the info about the software version. Mine is indeed 25... So I need to send it in again. This will cost me another month or so. Dang, too bad Mikado didn't upgrade it while they had it.

Velcro! Didn't think of that. That certainly isn't the solution I was looking for. :-)

Thx!
Bernhard

There was a free upgrade kit Mikado sent out early to mid 2012 for the canopy attachment issues. Part # 4600, you just need to send an email to Mikado asking them for it and they mail it direct to you (or maybe RH have some if you're in the US).

It included:
  • Edge protectors (like those at the battery opening) for the bottom canopy lip -- where you slide it under the front skid.
  • New bottom canopy lip dimensions (you need to cut/modify the bottom canopy lip, but looks very straightforward)
  • Washers to extend the length of the front-most canopy posts, in case those posts don't already touch the canopy -- so the canopy doesn't move around in flight.
  • Replacement screws for the front skid (4mm hex)
  • New, pre-drilled canopy posts and clips/cotter pins to secure the canopy.
No issues for me after installing this pack.

Cheers,
Ant

I did the canopy update also. Worked much better , but I was still getting the pins to come out of the holes.
You can see some marks from the pin vibrating on the topside of the other half.

I used to run a piece of electrical tape across the back (similar location to the Velcro) , it worked so did the Velcro option.

For the new canopy i'm to see about the Velcro but for the length of joint. Hoping to find something in clear or a close color of some sort.

Still taking the poor logo apart , it was a good thump inverted landing. My ESC will be going back also , the mounting tab got broken off. I thought using plastic bolts to fasten the esc would help it pop free easier but no.
I'll have to come up with something else to help save an esc.

canopy has 116.5 flights ...

Ouch, seems like you crashed it quite elaborately! I hope it's not too expensive!

I, too, did the canopy mod after about 20 flights. Granted, some damage was already done at that point, as the canopy was coming loose every flight up until then. Still, the mod didn't change things up to a satisfactory level.

I think I'll just order a new canopy and see how it goes. AFTER I get the ESC back, of course.

The update ( PITA ) is worth the wait , esc fires properly every time now , and smooth startup.

Yeah the canopy is done. I also had some damages before I did the update mod and some after that. Agreed it could be better. We'll see how the next canopy lasts with what I've learned to date.

On a sad note , Mikado emailed me back and said the esc might not be fixable.

Going to have another look at how to mount it. I already had plastic mounting bolts and it still broke.
In all fairness though , it was an inverted crash. Not to bad on repairs given the size , about 625 in parts , but the esc bumps it to 1k
