Ok, top 2 panels fold down, so those hinges will be on one face. For the bottom to fold in half, the hinge would have to be on the back side. The other option is to use a thick board and concealed hinges. The hinge would go into a "pocket" cut into the edge of the board and would not show with the pad flattened out. You must use a 180 degree hinge though to get it to fold flat.

Those hinges do look interesting. That seems like the perfect way to pull it off in style.

I'm sure there's a wide variety of these bed liners that would work, but I saw this one at Home Depot today. 45 lbs is likely heavy enough but more manageable than the 100 lb horse mats. It could stay in the truck bed except for days when it was needed. The side shown in the picture has bumps on it for traction, but the other side is smooth. $25 USD is pretty affordable; probably about what one of those fancy hinges would cost. Couldn't find the mat on the HD site to link to.

Well I finally got my helipad finished! Quite the project to undertake when you live in an apartment, but thanks to a great building manager here I wouldn't have been able to pull it off. I did most of the painting in the buildings work shop and did the assembly in our apartment. Now I just have to test it out in the next days here weather permitting.

I this pic I used clear adhesive film over the painted surface to protect it. Not sure if it's going to cause to much glare or not? If it does, off it comes! LOL

The back side I sprayed with undercoating then added the piano hinge and a folding carrying handle. The two yellow bars (top & bottom) are 1/4" U plastic channel to hold both pieces straight when it's laid out flat.

Here it is folded with Velcro pads on the inside to hold it closed for transporting.

You might find it is pretty slick and if damp man your heli can slide right off. I use a clear antiskid spray on mine.it works better then the rubber nuts on the skits.

That's a good point if it does get damp. I think maybe I'll try the clear anti skid spray idea instead of the clear film, just seems a much better way to go. What's the brand name of spray you used on yours and were can I get it?

Here's my current helipad. I bought it at Lowes for $25. It's one of those "anti fatigue" stand up mats, similar to what I used when I worked for the United States Postal Service when I'd be casing/sorting the mail for my mail route. It's heavy enough where I don't need to worry much about negative pitch sucking it up (though I'm still careful just in case), and it also heavy enough to even out little grass clumps when it's put over grass; but it's light enough to roll up and stick in the trunk of my car when I'm done. But reviewing that video though is making me second guess whether or not I should be using it.

I'm going to look into those rubber horse stall mats like CamDLux linked to. That looks like a good solution for when I'm out at the club field.

It looks stunning, exactly what I have been looking for.

SkyHawk52, can you please PM about your Helipad for more info?
