HWC 700G / TRM VX231 RS / VBar Gov

Spent some time today at Grapevine with the local "Kings of VBar Gov's" and they did a great job of getting the VBar gov working on my HWC Trex 700 G.

The TRM VX231 RS motor in this is new with one gallon of breakin fuel through it as well as another gallon of my normal fuel with the fully synthetic oil mix.

The head speed is set at 2050 which is about 13,200 engine rpm. Al recommends running in a power band of 12,750 to 13,700 so hence the 13,200 governed HS at 2050 (6.4375 gear ratio).

I still have a few things to tweak but raising the % minimum gov setting in the VBar from -10 to +20 made a significant improvement with the gasser.

I also switched to an align magnet sensor on the clutch bell as I was having erratic behavior with the Stator Gator.

I will include a short video of Robert Ables doing some "Smooth 3D" with it. All in all I am quite happy with this motor and I would imagine in a 270 format it would be even stronger.

Very nice Doug! Looks like you got it spinning like a top :-) . And they say a 231 can only do basic flying.

I never have liked what "they say" so I bought one and broke it in as Al recommended to see for myself. Yes it is really strong. I'm very pleased with it.

My next plan is to get my old G26 reworked into a full mod 27 or 29 and install it to see for myself how they compare.

What is your deg pitch at full positive?

10.5 degrees. I just increased it yesterday to 11.5 as I think the engine will pull it nicely.
Hope to test it this weekend if the weather improves.

That gov either reacts quickly, or is lead by the Vbar anticipating pitch change, do you know which?

Do you have a quick servo on the throttle?

My understanding is the VBar gov does have some anticipatory function based on stick movements before it manifests itself as a pitch change.
I am running BLS451's on cyclic and throttle at 7.4V with 2S LiPo straight into the VBar. BLS256 on the tail.

What rpm can this motor hold with 10.5 degrees of pitch? I suspect that it would drop down below 2050, have you tried? At 11.5 degrees it will drop even more and you may find that while you 3D it there is a better chance to bog it down some more due to the additional throws because you're used to moving the stick so much to do the same maneuver.

I would be very curious to hear your experiences when you get yourself the 27 or 29 motor from Toxic. You'll find you will need to be less saavy with collective management and if you were to fly the same maneuvers that were shown in this video the motor tone change will be less pronounced.
