Default Titan X50B new build w/ factory FBL conversion and MICROBEAST

I'll be using the FBL unit from my previous bird. This will be my third .50-sized nitro. I'm very excited to build this, although I won't actually start the build until next month probably. Still have a few more months of winter up here.

Your going to love that heli Bob! I will be building a second one as soon as I finish the basher 700 on the bench now. This will be the same as the first with torque tube, FBL, GT5, RL56 and am soon changing all my heli's to Torq servo's

Go the X50, Best 50 I ever owned

Hmmmm I think I'll need a pair of nitro G4's too!

Speaking of the RL-56, check out this video! BTW, I'm undecided if I'll be keeping my OS-55 or replacing it with the YS-60SR. Most likely keep it and invest in some HV servos.

Default Unboxing and inventory of parts

These TT products came in boxes with a nice factory seal.

Opening the box was no surprise.....three smaller boxes inside, as well as the manual. There was a decal sheet included in the bag with the manual.

The larger of the boxes contained the frame sides and bottom, canopy, landing gear struts and skids, belt, main fuel and header tanks, fuel tubing, main and auto-rotation gears, bell cranks, tail control rod guides, boom clamp, some frame bits and miscellaneous metal parts/ fasteners.

Various parts listed were sorted and contained in their own separate smaller bags within the larger ones.

Default Unboxing and inventory of parts

This smaller box contained the clutch, clutch bell, engine fan and shroud, bearings and bearing blocks, frame supports, tail boom block, FB head parts, belt pulley guides, tail assembly (not assembled), tail blades and fin, main blade holder, thread locker and miscellaneous screws and other bits.

The last box contained the main blades, tail boom and support rods, tail control rod, main shaft, locking collar, paddles, swash plate, main blade grips, canopy clip, allen wrenches, and more bearings, bearing blocks, screws, etc.

The FBL conversion kit has some metal parts that will replace the stock plastic parts. The FBL 120* bell cranks are metal, and there is a different elevator lever rod as well.

So, without tearing into all the bags, it appears that everything is there. Funny thing about the packaging was that some head parts were in one box, and some were in the other. Same for the tail parts. For instance, the head parts were all in one box except for the blade grips were in another. And one half of the tail case was in one box and the other half was in another.....LOL!!

I wanted to build this heli with all stock parts, but there are a few bits that I will replace with metal parts during the build. Most likely the main shaft bearing blocks and boom support clamp. Also I believe there's a CF upgrade for the boom supports. The stock ones are hollow aluminum tubes with plastic ends. I'll probably do that as well.

As far as the tail, I'm going to start out with the stock plastic but will likely upgrade to the metal unit sooner than later. I normally like to experience the difference between the stock components and their upgraded parts.

Anyway, I'm going to put everything back in the box now. If it really starts bugging me, I might start the build later this month rather than next month as I had originally planned on.

Ordered my first metal "upgrades" yesterday.

I'll replace the belt guide pulleys and idler pulley during the build.

I'll order the main shaft bearing blocks next pay day. And tax refund time is just around the corner.

What are the advantages to FBL over the FB version of the Titan X50. There seems to be less parts to replace in a crash and they look pretty cool too without the flybar.

Well, there are fewer parts in the head, A LOT fewer.

Think of the what a HH gyro does for the tail. Now add that kind of stability to the swash plate, and that's basically what a FBL system does for the heli. Not to mention the power loss from the drag of a flybar that you will re-gain by losing the flybar. The rotor disc will also maintain it's energy longer during an auto-rotation due to the lack of a flybar.

The servos arrived today, boy are they purdy.

I started stripping the old bird today, clearing the work bench, etc. so I can start gearing up for the new build.

Well, it's not much but it's a start. I just finished repairing my friend's 450Pro two days ago, and I'm almost done stripping my Velocity, so I figured I'd start something on the Titan today. Just the boom block. This part of the build was a no-brainer, and could easily have been accomplished without even looking at the manual. It took longer to take and upload the pics than it did to assemble these parts.

The hardware and pulleys came packaged separately, which was very convenient as far as locating them amongst everything else in the boxes. As can be seen, I went with the metal guide pulleys.

I just built up the frames. I'll post some pics tomorrow. So far this kit is extremely easy and quick to build.

ADDED:

Ran into a couple of minor issues during this part of the build. This first pic shows how I had to relieve the fan shroud a little so the mid carb needle could clear it.

This pic shows how I had to relieve the bottom frame a little so the screws for the motor's back plate would clear. I'll be mounting a back plate sensor bracket later on in the build.

This pic shows how little clearance there is between the top of the head and the fan shroud. It's hard to tell, but I actually think the head barely touches the shroud on top. Clearance to the side is adequate.

Got the MB mounted with two layers of 3M 4010 clear tape. I used the 411 gray tape last year...........that stuff sticks like you wouldn't believe! It was a major PITA to remove. This clear tape holds pretty strongly, but removes a lot easier.

So far this kit has gone together very nicely.

Just think ahead how you are going to run the wires. Inside or outside, and the Carbon Fiber has a lot of sharp corners.

Yep. This is my third .50 nitro build. The first one was a T-Rex 600, and that one was relatively easy to wire up compared to the Velocity 50 I had after that. This one doesn't look like it will be much of a problem.
