Question Looking at diff helis. Mikado got my attention lately.

Ok, so, I've been parting out a heli to try a brand that is of quality, but not a brand I have used before. I have looked at Mikado, Synergy, Compass...I was leaning towards a Synergy E5 for a while, but I always have liked Mikados design in general. Dont recall seeing more than one fly in person, but it was sweet.
I wanted the Synergy E5 because its basically a huge 500, or a small 600. It is nearly as tall as my Goblin 700! You can use one 6S 5000mah lipo, or two 3300mah lipos in series.

So, what do you Mikado guys recommend for a 550, 500 size range? I still have my trex 500 servos and ESC (hasnt sold yet.) They're hitecs and a JR servo(s), and a castle 75 amp ESC along w/ a KDE motor...still have a castle BEC too (BEC pro ver 2a) I plan on selling this all except the BEC unless I decide on a 500 class that needs this size servo in order to help fund the new heli. Honestly, I cant see orientation all that well on the trex 500 when its more than like 80' away.

So, that being said, what model Mikado do you guys recommend and where should I get it? Used, new? Bare bones kit or...? Need direction. Keep in mind, I dont know anything about Mikado except how to set-up a v-bar.

Thanks you guys in advance!

I'm on my 3rd 550 sized heli with the last being a 550SX.

1. TREX 550 - cheap, vibration issues, QC issues, noisy, sort of heavy.
2. Synergy E5 - solid, smooth, quiet, heavy, short flight times
3. Logo 550SX - smooth, quiet, light, longer flight times, very well balanced.

Personally I think the 550SX is the best 550 out there, and I'm finally happy with my 550 sized heli. the 550SX is a keeper.

I built mine no expense spared and covered everything in this thread.

That doesn't tell you how inexpensively you can build a good 550SX, but it has a bunch of information in it.

Dude, your the man! The Synergy I saw fly was truly quiet unless you performed a hard manuever... And I never had a 550 trex, but Ive had my share of rex's and I have to agree 100%. And thanks for your thread... I have a weird gut feeling I'll be an owner of one of these as well. Looks like quality machinery...

Lets just say that ANYONE who has flown my Logo550 buys one within a month or two. I have a few friends who refuse to fly it because they know it will be an expensive flight.

Mikadousa took over the exclusive distributorship in the US when ReadyHeli went under.

Mikadousa has been dramatically better at staying stocked with parts than Readyheli ever was. I think it is fairly safe to say that if MikadoUSA doesn't have it then Mikado themselves is probably waiting on a shipment from their suppliers.

There's also the Compass 550 Ultimate coming out. Can't say enough about my 6hv.

rotor floater,
you said that you are parting out a trex 500 to build a new heli. the logo 480 use mini servos.. like you 500 has. you'd want a new motor, but the ESC would be fine.

the logo 500 and 550 use full-size servos.

Hmmm.... Didnt know that...
The motor I have is not the stock one, its a KDE one that has pretty decent power.

But not sure at all if it will fit...sort of doubt it if the stock align one wont.
Hmmm....

If you're only going to buy one Logo heli right now and your initial interest in the E5 was because it's a 'large 500', then I would recommend the 550sx over the 480 XXtreme. In this case, for those reasons. Nothing wrong with the 480, of course, just trying to help you get the one that will best suit your current interests.

I also wouldn't choose an airframe based on which servos I had on hand. I understand the motivation, I just think airframe far outweighs electronics as a deciding factor. Flying a friend's 550sx pushed me into loving Logos; I bought one shortly thereafter and I haven't looked back.

I had a Synergy E5 and REALLY liked it. I sold it to help fund my Logo 700. It was a great model and Matt is a great guy. The 480 (in size) is between a Trex 500 and 550. I will say the 480 is a blast to fly and normally the first one to get flown at the field. You cant go wrong with Synergy or Mikado. Good luck with your next purchase

You'll love it

I bought a synergy e5 and sold it new in box to get my 550sX.

Never happier, the sunergy E5 is pretty heavy in comparison, think of it like it's a rather old school technology done in a very well executed and slightly heavy, but robust, way

And think of logo 550SX as a German commercially produced helicopter, done very very well, both robust and light.

The boutique German helicopters ( minicopter, acrobat, henseleit) are ( IMO) a cut above the logos, but the logos are very nicely executed and affordable helicopters,

I buy and sell helicopters regularly , I have never sold a logo,

And I think your signature speaks for itself!
