Well I think cabin fever has started setting in...
I may not be able to lift and carry the big fleet outside to fly.
And I'm not really willing to risk the scale fleet ....

So I figured I might kill 2 birds with one stone and put a beater machine together that I can easily carry outside and practice with in the yard..

So dragged out the crash and burn salvage box of parts from under the table and rig this up in a couple of hours.

Nothing fancy 3GX / 5065 servos / 40A ESC.. surprisingly very stable at least it will keep me from going stir crazy for now.

I did say it was put together with parts from the crash and burn box....

Besides it's a beater machine

Sorry to hear you're going thru this!

Glad to hear you were able to give up the smokes, no easy task

Rich, at least you at home now and can tinker around a bit like only you know how to do. As you have seen, you have the whole community pulling for you. You have to do something about that luck of yours. First, we were going nuts worried about you being buried under a pile of snow with Hurricane Sandy, Now you got this stuff happening with you.

Here is something you might consider passing some time with. Get yourself a Raspberry Pi micro-controller and see what devilish things you can get it to do with a helicopter.

But isn't there always a price to pay......

I've been content going over each machine and refining the wiring, tweaking the mechanics.
I have manage to test fly each one once to make sure everything was good to go.
Now I'll put them into storage for the winter, and tinker with the micros for a while.

Written by the guy who has an aircraft fleet worth more than the GDP of some countries.

For the last little while, I have been hanging out over in quadcopter land. One of the bigger news stories is that Horizon has released the Blade 350 QX quad. It is nice because it comes complete with GPS and all the features of GPS. It is also advertised as Go Pro compatible.

Immediately upon release, two issues manifested themselves. The first issue was in some cases, the GPS would not initialize or perform poorly if there was a Go Pro 3 attached. This issue was corrected by wrapping the Go Pro 3 in aluminum adhesive tape to block the RFI generated by the Go Pro 3. The second issue was in some cases, the props disintegrated in midair. This issue is being addressed by Horizon who is issuing new improved props to whoever requests them. The second solution is a re-engineering of the prop adapter by Small Parts CNC which allows the use of standard quad copter props.

The really good news about this story is how quickly the end users, after-market and manufacturer have come together to address these issues. We are talking less than a month. This is the kind of synergy we have wanted for a long time. I fly one of these aircraft (BNF). I dealt with the RFI issue and was fortunate enough to notice prop cracking while the unit was on the ground. Now I am waiting for the prop adapter devices.

There is a huge amount of discussion on another forum that is providing a lot of information.

Been awfully quiet from Castle East. Any news? Hope you're finally on the mend, Richard.

A quiet Castle East does not mean an idle or dormant Castle East. Remember, the Mighty Castle East survived Hurricane Sandy! RC heli technology has been lagging behind the advancements being made in quad and plane land using embedded systems and GPS technology. I am sure none of this is being lost on Castle East. Stand by, loyal friends, stand by.

Castle East is live and well......
Been tinkering with setups, all of the fleet is flight tested and ready, but winter is rearing its head.
As to recovery....
No changes.. the doctors have now classified me as a "anomaly "....
They are trying there best but as of now they are at a loss.
I just take things a bit slower right now and hope that my body will hopefully heal itself.
