Sounds like if you have 145mm or higher you are good.

I would think 0.2mm shims would be a better idea. Anyway just measured ours and it's 148mm so no problem.

I'm sure that once the dust setlles SAB will be replacing a few bits like booms and off-centered secondary shafts. Maybe they'll just give all of us new kits, lol!

There is nothing wrong with compression. Most tapes are too thick anyway and you need some degree of compression. Keep in mind, 0.1 to 0.2 mm in the front translate into several mm in the rear.

Not sure what SAB will do, will find out soon. The important thing is that SAB is trying to keep the lines of communication open with the customers to ensure that they have a good experience with their products. As with any new mass production helicopter, there are normal growing pains, but they're being taken care of and addressed immediately. We're inspecting every single important part that comes out of the assembly line right now.

Nothing a piece of tape cannot fix! Does it have to be red though? I'm asking this because the color of the tape used seems to be important when fixing RC helis:

I have measured mine and it was 142mm. So I tried out a couple of possible combinations, and I found out a quite effective one. As you can see in the following photos by using two little pieces of simple electrical insulation tape (its quite thin) you can achieve an increase in the distance of boom and blade tip of 5mm.
You can double that by using two layers of tape. Mine is now 147mm. By placing the tape that way you also make sure you will not have any side ways movement of the boom as it still makes very good contact on the sides of it's base.
Tape must be red though.

+1! mine is 139mm then SAB will just have to ship me a new boom! don't want to tape mod my heli.!

Mine was 131 mm !!!! I put a layer of 0.7mm thick electrical tape (thick stuff, you can get it at Home Depot) and now it sits at 144.5 mm. Good enough.

just measured mine (from first batch) its 149-150

I noticed at the risk of breaking my blades if you bend the blade down from the tip it comes to about 50mm clearance from the boom. didn't want to risk pushing it further in-case i broke my blades

While this is great that SAB appear to be sorting the issues I think they should not be there in the first place.

Not just SAB but in general, we hobbiests for some reason accept it, say to ourselfs and others that it's fine,why? It's not fine and we don't accept it in any other part of our life's.

What would you guys do if you brought a new car, a band new model and it had defective brakes?

Accept it, no you would be back in the dealers the same day and they would sort it for you ASAP foc.


Now I'm an early adopter purely because if I see something I like I get it so it's actually because of people like me we have these issues and manufacturers think is acceptable to release a product that is not 100% ready strange one but that's what this hobby does to us

This is why they have "recalls" . Remember Toyota?
In all honesty this happens in all industries. Some fix em some don't.

Surely some, if not all, "previous" helis on the market have design flaws, but we do/did not recognize them.

I think having transparancy on such issues allows us to act, either by implementing the "mod" or by applying for a proper fix. At least we are informed!
Surely SAB takes their customers seriously, but I'm convinced a lot of the manufactures "transparancy" comes from "brand" protection. This is where the power of the customer lies
