Just try them. I was using them before my crash and thought they were fine. About. 5 flights.

Out comes Bobby's video and it is now in our heads they are not good for 3D. I also was using the black dampeners and thought it flew great. The Internet can be a good or bad place. Info is spread so quickly that it can almost paralyze someone and change perception so quickly like in the video. I wonder if Gaui saw the video and had any per-approval of it... Pending it was "Bobby's" project.

I am using Edge blades now and really like them too. Plus changed the dampeners to the red ones per Bobby. I can't tell the difference really. Maybe to early too tell.

The main problem is it has been put into people's head they are not good for hard 3D and this totally goes against how the kit was marketed... An all out 3D machine.

I do agree this should not be the case. As much as watching the video and saying a header tank is almost mandatory but it was not a part of the kit or to throw away the fuel tubing. I am still loving the NX4 but think Gaui should reevaluate the kit and change the things for the V2 version. They have some PR catching up to do.

Broke upon disassembly! Working with Gaui on a solution.

Same place. All of them, same place.

Not worth the risk in my opinion. Gaui need to get these swapped out for the first batch of kits. Nothing wrong with the design, but something is obviously not right.

Easy swap to the Ely-Q part, which is pretty cheap in comparison to the Gaui tail slider. Mine was almost impossible to dis-assemble, even with heat.

Cheers,
Simon

This is the part

http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/eq-0...er-p-5356.html

I wouldn't use the plastic yoke, but the pitch arms and the brass sleeve are a direct replacement fit for the Gaui parts. The thread on the brass bush is exactly the same, just a bit thicker on the rear bush (easily filed down if you want). A cheap option compared to the Gaui tail pitch slider as all you really want is the new brass bush to assemble it properly yourself.

Regards,

Simon

So is everyone going a different route/brand on the slider. I thought gaui was replacing these if it was broke at no charge?

IMO. The replacement should follow a two step process like this:

If your pitch assemble breaks during disassembly inspection a complete pitch slider assembly replacement is warranted.

If you are lucky to take apart in one piece, they should offer the option of just replacing the brass bushing.

I believe this is a reasonable request?

I would like an answer for this also, have a bunch of raptor parts,
it would be nice to swap out the brass and put this to rest.,,
I really don't need any help crashing, that was the first skill I mastered.

The Ely-Q tail was based on a Raptor design, so I know the tail output shaft is the same diameter. If you are going to swap out the brass part in your Gaui tail pitch slider, I would factor in the possibility that you will damage it during removal. There is very little to get hold of, and mine was jammed in so tight, I practically had to rip it out.

I can't give you a 100% answer because I don't have a Raptor anymore, but a lot of people replaced the original Ely-Q part for Quick uk Raptor parts or genuine raptor parts as the plastic yoke was brittle in the original batch of kits, and caused a lot of problems (which is why it is metal in the Vision Comp kit....see my picture a few pages back). If you have a complete Raptor pitch slider, it might be worth checking if you could just swap it directly, the geometry on the Ely-Q part was identical.

I'm looking forward to flying mine over the break, but I would not have trusted it unless I swapped the tail. A message from someone saying "it will be fine, just fly it" isn't good enough when there have already been a number of failures in a short space of time.

Hope that helps ??

Regards,
Simon

Well I finally decided not to use the replacement part and make my own. I was joking with my wife who commented " you still use that lathe?"

Ahhhhh lol

I found an old main shaft with. 4.98 to 5 mm inner hole (I think it's from my old shuttle). I don't have metic bits handy so this find in my "bin of parts" was awesome. Perfect fit over the tailshaft.

I cut a new bushing out of the steel and then drilled out the threads in the fork. I then pounded in a chamfer locking it together. Hope Gaui goes to steel or a newer design.

Ready to fly!!!

That's awesome! Talking from a non-engineers view, would the choice of metal alloy affect the sliders performance in different temperature conditions? Is that why brass is commonly used? Also, possessing some self lubricating properties? From a non metal workers perspective.

It can. You can have metal "gaul" together but not worried about the steel on steel. Also with it being nitro it will always be self lubricating.

Brass is butter to machine and if I am correct holds an edge well, threads, sharp corners. That is the only real reason I can think why they use it. I know one of the trex is aluminum anodized black. I have also seen steel.

I feel better, nothing like flying a chopper wondering when or if the next part is going to fail.

I still think there is an issue with the part, even if only a few have had ( posted) issues. I've never heard of this part breaking in my 25 yrs until now.

Here it is all ready to go!!Click image for larger version

Very nice. Did you cut off the bolt on the arm in front of the slider and ditch the locknut?

Thx guys. I haven't machined for a while and it was fun getting back to it.

Carlos,
I cut one for you. I'll PM you. I haven't made a part for someone else for years. My old saying was "sure it will cost you $600, but for that price you might as well buy the lathe lol"

My site is www.cuttingedgecnc.com if you wanna see more.

Joellen001,
I used a smaller bolt and have not used a nut since day one. None of the other helis I have had used a nut there. Just loctite.

I also cut the little "lip" off the bellcrank so the pushrods lines right up. Hate when the pushrods guides are not made the right size....stupid IMO. In the front I bent the pushrod down. The guides need to be like 2-3 mm longer.

PS. Don't ask about the canopy, I forgot to put the clips on and it came off during a tic toc lol. Ouch.
