Dx8/MCPX
Hello.
I've been flying a fixed pitch heli for a while and have just purchased an MCPX2 & DX8. I've looked at the DX6 tame settings (by Imzzaudae) but I'm getting a bit bogged-down relating them to my DX8. So............. The DX8 has 3 positions on the switches. Do I make positions 3 the same as 0 or 1 (for safety/simplicity) or something else entirely? Travel adjust on the DX6 err, what's that all about then? Reversing:- Pitch on DX6 R, DX8 N. Why? Please bear with me, I just picked the thing up for the first time a few days ago and my head is on overload so if you can give me a few pointers I would be able to keep my sanity for a bit longer! Thanks in advance. |

Hello
Simply enter the DX8 settings from the manual first.
Do a zero pitch setup as described. Then set the travel adjust and DR as described. I understand your a little overwhelmed but it's not that complicated just take it slow, one step at a time until you are finished setting the helicopter and the transmitter up. Set all your DR switches position 0 and don't bother with the rest. You do not need them. They are just bling feature and a complication you don't need to be dealing with right now. Reverse in the pitch menu question. Answer. With a DX6i you need to reverse the servo direction in the pitch menu Re R for reverse. You do not do this with a DX8 set it N for normal direction. Re Throttle curve Norm throttle curve as described in my newbies setup ST-1 set 0,0,0,0,0 This is stunt mode you will not be using stunt mode ST-2 set 0,0,0,0,0 This is stunt mode you will not be using stunt mode Pitch curve menu. Norm pitch curve as described in my newbies setup ST-1 set 0,0,0,0,0 This is stunt mode you will not be using stunt mode ST-2 set 0,0,0,0,0 This is stunt mode you will not be using stunt mode If you need help with my settings, That little PM button works wonders, I'm around and will do all I can to help you.

Ignore setting D/R Confirm swash moves left/right and forward/back with the right stick Normal Pitch 40, 45, 50, 75, 100 Normal Throttle Indoors 0,30,60,60,60 Normal Throttle Outdoors 0,40,80,80,80 (You can match other two to above if you're new) Idle 1+2 Pitch curve for 3d always linear 0,24,50,75,100 Idle 1 3D Throttle Curve: 90,90,90,90,90 Idle 2 3D Throttle Curve: 100,100,100,100,100

Success (well,a bit)
Did the swash levelling. Did the zero pitch thing. Entered the beginner DX8 settings. That only left one thing to do, have a go.
Managed to get the little blighter into a hover and managed to get through a few batteries before I had to go and sit in a darkened room to unwind Slammed the throttle a couple of times (fixed-pitch habit) but managed to use throttle hold when I calmed down a bit. After flying my fixed pitch fairly easily I thought 'how hard can this collective pitch thing be'............now I know Thanks Ron 'et all' |

It just different it will become easier. I came from fixed pitch as did many or most others so we know precisely how you feel.

It sounds like the DX8 is all switches and knobs.
There's only one thing to do: work yourself up a proper checklist as per a full-size pilot. Work your way through the checklist before every take off, that way everything will be in its proper place! |
