Hey sushka, sorry if you have already mentioned it, but what program do you use?

Your canopies are amazing by the way.

Does anyone have a black version of the tdr canopy? Something without the colors... The black carbon fiber look is cool...

Thanks to anyone that can help!

Yes, color ink can be expensive and the whole idea is to make it cheap and something not to worry much about damaging in practice. I really like CyLLika's design of the Henseleit-like TDR canopy at https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...&postcount=120 .

To save ink, the color was removed from firedragon's beautiful design (https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...&postcount=128) except for the green replaced by black of the "comet" (Proheli refers to the splash streaks by that moniker). This left a black and white version to color in. (Sorry, if you want to color the "comet" in, it will also have to be outlined and the black taken out.)

Some of the redundant tabs were removed and some marked with a dot for clarity. The hole marks were taken out as I found my flexed frame canopy pegs were in different places. One can mark the canopy after fitting it to the helicopter and then put the holes in. The Photoshop .psd and .jpg files are attached. I printed it without making the file "fit to scale" as the software requested.

A few tips for those who are thinking to do this and are not quite sure, whether they have the skill for it. It took patience and some dexterity to color in carefully with "super tip" markers, cut the many angles with an X-acto knife, and then very carefully put it all together without tearing, while folding and gluing correctly. Glue the side sections first. Fit the middle piece to one side next. Then glue the other side section to finish.

Additional tools used were a scissor, glue stick, and retracted pen to shape from the inside while shaping the outside of the canopy simultaneously. Some small additional pieces of paper were used to help glue everything in the right place from the inside and reinforce to get it just right. Beside cutting, the knife was also used to apply some extra glue with greater precision than the wide glue stick head allows.

It took me about 4 hours. To me it was well worth it and the effort sweetened the result. I may post pictures, when I have the time and some daylight.

Default White / Blank Tail Fin Plus mCP X TDR Style Paper Canopy Photos

White / Blank Tail Fin Cover is attached as Photoshop .psd, Adobe Reader .pdf, and .jpg file. Cut over outline to leave blank tail. Color as you like.

As a continuation of my earlier post of the black and white Henseleit-like TDR canopy at https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...&postcount=134 , some photos are attached below including a picture of the tools used to make this canopy (minus computer, and printer).

The canopy in these photos is preliminarily just draped and not attached except for the tail cover glued slightly to the fin at the bottom. One photo shows the overlapping bottom section to give a better idea how to glue that.

Lastly, notice how nicely this design allows for the concave surface of the windows. To create this shape, as a last step just pinch them in a little toward each other.

Further refinements are being contemplated, e.g. going to gray on some of the canopy outlines, in order to minimize these showing up, if not cut out. A straw may also be fitted over the tail boom.

Default TDR canopy 1st attempt

This is probably the closest I can get to a TDR and I love it! Now just have to figure out how I can get similar skids!

I used photo paper and before cutting it out I covered it with packing tape. One thousand you's for posting these plans. I was about to cough up the $$ to have the original ones shipped over.

Now if I can only get the paper plans for my Logo and X5! Haha!

Default Color Your Own mTDR-CPX Paper Canopy

This is a continuation of posts #134 and #136. It consist of the following updates:
  1. Color your own template files. Use Photoshop or color with pens. (Attached file types are .psd, .pdf, and .jpg.)
  2. Outlines are muted gray to reduce seam visibility, if outline is not cut out perfectly.
  3. Barely visible gray crosses are introduced as frame peg hole indicators should you wish to use them.
  4. Tail fin cover is included in slightly enlarged form over previously posted one.
  5. Muted Gray letter "mTDR-CPX" center panel file for coloring letters with pens.
  6. Black comet and lettering canopy.
  7. Red window, and black comet and lettering canopy.
Have fun!
