Default motor question

Will a Hyperion 4020-910 work on the X5?

That used to be the stock motor that came with the kit. It's since been replaced with a 890kv

OOOPs! I thought you wrote Scorpion! Too early in the morning! That motor should work though.

Oh goody. I built an HD cell last year and after building an x3 over the winter I was so impressed that should I ball up the cell I would probably go this way. Love the cell as well but a bitch to build compared to the x3.

+1 The Hyperion 4020-910 is the same as the Scorpion equivalent. For all intents and purposes I believe they are actually made by Scorpion and just rebranded for Hyperion. All-e-rc had a closeout on them a few months back so I picked one up for about $20 bucks just to have a spare. I haven't actually ran it in mine as the Scorpion is still holding up, but I've run these Hyperion motors in other models and they're easily just as good as their Scorpion brothers. It's a shame they're not making them anymore. They were a great value.

The stock motor on the Formula kit is basically the Scorpion HKII-4020-910. At least that's what was in mine that I bought a little over a year ago. That motor has been discontinued, so the closest equivalents are...
You'd just have to choose one of those based on what kind of headspeeds you'd like to run given the available 5mm pinions.

Of course there are certainly other motors that will work. The Hyperions were good, but they're harder to come by now. They were a really good deal when they were going for $20, but I have a feeling if you find any around now they're not going to be much cheaper than the Scorpions anyways.

For instance, here's some on fleabay...

Excellent. I don't know why I didn't even think to check there.

Sho' nuff..... http://www.empirerc.com/gaui-gm-601-...10-p-5258.html

Nice....and cheaper to boot.

I've thought about putting an 1100kv motor in to see if I like the higher headspeed. It's what some people are running in some other 550 heli models. But the 910kv has been a great motor. I run it governed at 2400 RPM with the 16T pinion and easily get 5 minute flight times.
