Default ec3 connector melted

freaky thing happened to me last night.it was my birthday last week and I got a new rc truck. it is a maverick strada xt evo 1/10th and it came with a useless nimh 1800 pack, needless to say it was slow and lasted 7 mins

well being the happy owner of a x2 lipo brushless monster truck (yep 14v) I borrowed one of its 2 cell 4000 mah lipo 40c and poped in to new truck
well it moved like stink and was super nippy compaired to my 1/8th monster truck

15 mins later I stoped to just check it over and the ec3 connector was melted

ec3,s im shore is rated up to 160 amps, the trucks esc is 80 amp and im doubtfull its brushed motor could pull 80 amps because that would be simply dumb so why did this connector melt ....now im proper stuffed as my new landlord is coming sunday so we can have a race at the local park, i was going let him drive the monster truck and I was going to drive the maverick . guess who dosnt have any spare male ec3s well they are ordered and I prey to the rc gods they get here

Hi Antony

Rated to 60 Amps, which perhaps explains things. I run EC3 on the 450, which is going to be drawing maybe 20A, and peaking briefly at anything up to say 40A. On the 550, I run EC5, as in theory the 550 can pull more than 60A, and the ESC is 70A, so you need to be able to cover the rating of the ESC. I wouldn't fancy EC3 on the 550. EC5 is rated to 120A, by the way.

So, I should think if you want to run it with those higher power demands, you will need EC5, but consider what else you might be overloading. I'm sure you have, but just make sure.

Cheers

Sutty

cheers sutty...god knows were I got 160 amps from ec5 dose sound the way to go. but me being lazy converts all my rc gear to the same connection. even the power hungry monster truck uses the ec3 and after countless missions of mayhem ive never had an issue and that's even after my wife parked it in a river

since the need to race is really high and that Richard my new landlord is new to all things rc (I let him lose with my msrx last week he did great and very very eager to learn to fly a heli) Im cutting the connector off a 450 pack and redoing the small truck with a small test run tonight

honestly I cant just call it off and wait for spares to arrive. handing over my dx6i to a heli virgin actually wasn't a hard thing to do(in all fairness I use loads of neg expo on all my helis and he is going to be a champion),the msrx got a good beating but no damage was done. im going to teach Richard to fly and he already has taken my training tx to use at home..he wasn't supposed to I just brought it down to show him but when he left he grabed it on the way out and I chose to not say anything

so if anything frys again im just going to convert the small truck to brushless.its tried and tested on my monster truck which can hit speeds of 40 mph off road so new esc and motor for the little one means im going to be backing a winner
oh and when I next meet him im bringing him here to are forum and getting him to sighn up.i can teach him to fly even buddy box him but I don't know everything about everything so that's were you guys come in to it
