Question regarding motor / muffler mounting
Do I need to use RTV between the two or just bolt them together?
I thought I was supposed to but the manual does not specify. Also, OMG! it was hard to put the fuel tank together!

I would be very wary of using rtv sealant on the pipe. If any squishes in inside the exhaust in can make its way into the motor and cause glow plug failures and bearing issues.

I cut out a gasket out of a piece of auto gasket. It seems to work well and no leaks. I think I saw on ebay you can buy the gaskets all cut out for you, if you don't want to cut them out.
It took some patience with an very sharp exacto knife. I used gasket material for auto thermostat housing. |

Thanks for the tips guys.
I was a little confused because in the smacktalk nitro 101 video bobby recommends using RTV on the pipe and the only other nitro I owned had it but in the manual, they just bolt on. I'll go to the auto store and find a suitable gasket to cut and fit.

On the other forum, they say to use 5 min epoxy (Search for it in the NX4 section, its not that big over there). Just a thin coating. I never did, I bought the Gaui muffler that came with a gasket.

Question regarding motor / muffler mounting
Mine is just slapped on. I have tried the RTV and had a flame out down the line. Can't blame it on tr RTV but...????
I did not use it again and all good. A little dribble when it sits but I just wipe it down.

I use this stuff on all my nitros. It works well and has never leaked. You just need a little bit of it, not so much it goops out on all sides.

RTV works fine (make sure it's high temp, Red, Copper like Matt posted, Yamabond or Hondabond etc.) the trick is to use a toothpick and just very lightly cover the muffler surface, let it skin for 5 minutes then install it loosely so that the surfaces are touching but not snugged. Let it sit for an hour or so and then snug it tight, That lets it form into a gasket and keeps it from squishing into the motor, not that much would have anyway if the proper amount was used. The paper gaskets also work fine. I also usually resurface the muffler and exhaust port with some fine wet/dry sandpaper on a sheet of glass or granite. Usually not the first time but certainly after it's been put on and taken off several times. Never tried epoxy.
