Default HELP!! Will larger ESC solve temp issue?

I bought a Trex 700 V3 DFC HV, do to the wires on the castle 120 not being long enough to route through the new frame design I mounted it up front in the nose. I have tried various settings but still getting temps that are far to high for my likeing. At default settings, 2155 HS, and 5 min flight the norm is 220-230 degrees, after tinkering with settings the best I can do is 190 degrees but probably babied it to get that. What I am wondering is it likely the ESC temps would come down dramatically if I just swap out the CC120 for a CC160? I guess there are hypotheticals and therories but has anyone actually just swapped out a 120 for a 160, all settings the same, and able to lower the ESC temp?

There may be a lack of air flow if you have it mounted up front under the canopy. You can install a small fan on the top of the Ice heatsink, that may help keep it a bit cooler. The other option is to run the ESC on the back of the heli like the V2, that will put the ESC in a lot of airflow and keep it much cooler.

I am just a little confused here. I know there are others with the same stock setup, similar HS, with there esc up front and I am hearing temps in the 140 degree range. I even put a few holes i the canopy which did nothing to reduce temps. All my ESC settings are basically the default setup. How do I peak 230 degrees and the highest I have seen from anyone else has been 190 after bangin on a very hot day with the ESC up front. Its a pain to mount on the back as I will have to lengthen motor wires but I gotta do something...230 is not good. I even thought about putting a CC160 on it but the size difference with be more of an issue I think now that I compared

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I believe the motor timing setting will indeed affect ESC temps. Try lowering the timing to low. This should make the ESC run cooler without affecting performance too much. If you kept the settings at the default factory settings your timing is probably at medium.

Hi,
had similar issues with a Trex550. No matter what I tried, the ESC would get really hot, tried differnet motor, blades, motor timing settings etc. In the end was a bad solder joint on the ESC to the batts. Ended up finding this out when lost power and battery connector on one plug was fused to the other.Worth a try.

Had similar issues with my X7 - Quantum 4530 and Ice 120. I tried everything, and finally switched to a 700MX motor. The switch brought my temps from 200 down to 140.

Im sorry, I thought low timmng was default...Mine is set to low. I am very comfortable with my solder joints. Just wonder if ths is one of the CC controllers that may have slipped through the cracks and on the brink of incineration. So I am going to try a new controller...Ill post results, thanks everyone for your input

I can can confirm that moving from a 120HV to 160HV has significantly dropped the ESC temp down to barely warm on hard smack.

Only downside is that the 160HV ESC is huge! lol

Default JUST SWAPPED.

Just changed my 120 for a 160. Using the KDE 495kv and it is only warm to touch on landings. Good luck.
