If the 4525 Ltd doesn't strip this gear, it's a keeper for me. I WAS going with the slant gear until I saw this thread.
CNC,

Can you try the slant for a few flights? My results are not conclusive. If your auto hub bearing does not get pushed up with that 4525 beast motor, then would mean it's going to be okay and I have a problem with my hub.

Better to see if it's consistent thing or not before we back off the Slant.

Sure, I can do that. It's going to be a couple of weeks until I get this all together and maidened, but I'll start with the slant gear. I'm a slow builder. I'm just glad I don't build planks any more. Way, way too time consuming.

That will give me a good gear noise comparison too.

Their’s no need for the test after all. I was messing around with the auto hub and am fairly sure I found out what the problem is.

I had the auto hub/main gear and the new style tail drive gear assembled with the bolt through and noticed some play between the tail drive gear and the auto hub. I found a shim that fit in between perfectly and when I checked the fit I pushed and pulled the gears to check for play and heard a fairly loud click and then I had more play. After inspecting the auto hub, I found that the lower bearing had pushed in slightly and only from hand pressure.

I took everything apart and removed the 2 bearings and sleeve by heating everything up with a heat gun. Everything literally fell apart after it was all hot (I used the sprag and center piece to twist out the auto sleeve). I cleaned everything up and secured with green loctite.

Either Align didn't glue the bearings in well or the glue they use isn't up to the task. IMO it would have been a better design if the bearings were pressed in from the outside so there wouldn't be any way they could shift inward.

I know. I think I posted the "Casue" in another thread. This has happened 2 times to me. I reloctited the bearings in each time.
The point with the Slant Gear was that it is pushing "UP" on the main gear thus creating more force to "PUSH" the top autorotation hub bearing "DOWN". Hence
it does not help the problem. Even is it is not the root problem.

While I was postng my observation, I did get the feeling I had read that somewhere. So many posts and so much information to absorb on a daily basis.

I think you're absolutely right. I believe there were problems when Align released the slant gear for the Trex600 2 or 3 years ago. So, maybe they forgot?

I think the herring bone gear will solve this issue once and for all, or like you did and go back to the straight cut gear. I guess even with green loctite, the constant pressure could be causing the failure to occur over and over.

Will check out the hub now and again after a few more flights.
Have had the top bearing lower itself as well.

I will not be comparing the herringbone gear to the slant gear.

Slant gears?
My opinion is this:

In an application with a smaller diameter, thicker gear, yes.

In an application with a large diameter, thinner gear, no.

Looking at the CC Ice log from yesterday amp peaks are down and efficiency appears to be up.
Yes, I changed gearing from 8.85 to 8.46, also added a third block and frame supports.

What I can say for sure is my flight timer is now set to 30 seconds more than it was with the same esc and pitch settings.

No wobble on spool up, very quiet main gear, lower amp peaks, more flight time.

Works for me.

Is this with the new Herringbone gear or slant gear? Whatever it is sounds good

Comparing 11mm straight cut gear 13/115 gearing -vs- supports shown in previous post, third block, and herringbone gear 110/13 gearing.

Test flight 2 successful, limited time today, so only got 1 flight in.

Planned to go 13 max pitch but I decided better safe than sorry and went 12deg max and flew it as hard as I could.

Note:12 deg max ripped out my last 11mm straight cut gear after 30 seconds of flight with these settings.

Temps all better than expected.

I am sold on these upgrades period.

This gear took a beating, I intentionally threw collective management out the window for the day and was doing full pitch climbs, sustained tic tocs, full collective stick banging. Not a single problem. Flight performance was absolutely incredible.

I really think waiting for the Vbar gov setup is the best thing to do at this point.
RPM range isn't dropping more than 100rpm in hard moves. I expect the Vbar gov to gov better, then again flight time should suffer some when that happens as well so I don't mind waiting, especially if it keeps flying like this.

5 minutes of pure heli bliss......

All that is audible from 30 ft is the tt gears and blades.
Think Logo 600, just has a very minor tt gear sound added.
So far judging motor bogging by ear is out, gotta feel it and check logs.
That was not the case with the other gears.
Could hear the "turbine" then. I know "turbine" is extreme but if you run a
stock MOD1 gear you know what sound I am talking about.
In no way comparing logo and trex, just a good reference for sound comparison.

Ordered the new gear and pinion. I was shocked to find out it's only $33.00 including shipping to Florida. Can't wait to install them along with the new frame kit and third bearing block. Thanks for all the great info.
