Default How to do POGOS???

Hey all, I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around on how to do pogos normal and inverted. I try it on the sim and I cannot maintain a forward momentum. A sim vid with stick movements and a brief explanation would greatly be appreciated.

Not 100% sure you've got terminology right...

Pogos are generally only up and down maneuvers.

Are you thinking of bunny hops? The the heli is eating up the flight line as it travels in a quasi tic-toc pattern?

Here is a bunny hop video (not a very good one, admittedly, also, not mine)

Here is a better example of a 'bunny hop' (as i've heard them called)

At 48 seconds:

Pardon my mis terminology of the maneuver... Yes you are correct with "bunny hopping" Thanks for the links and vids! Now time to dig this into my sim routine.

It's also called the Curly Shuffle. Can be confusing to get at first, but once you get it, very simple to execute. It's a good move to practice to gain good "collective movement" control. That is, doing 3d moves, your model mostly moves around the sky by the collective.
The better collective control you have, the better Curly Shuffle you can do, and likewise, the more you practice it.. the better your collective will be.

This makes sense as I was practicing on the sim, collective is key to making the maneuver as flat as possible without gaining nor losing altitude... Definitely not easy.

I don't know if that's classified as collective management despite the basic nature of bunny hop being similar to tic-toc. You really want to slam on the collective to get more spectacular bunny hop. When rotor disc is tilting forward, heli is supposed to move forward but you maneuver it backward in the bunny hop move. Does that defy physics then? No. The basic idea is to alternative cyclic and matching collective like you do tic-toc but IMO the similarity ends there. Let's say you want to tilt rotor disc forward and bunny hop backward, the key is to have more forward tilt when you pump harder negative collective than when you pump less aggressive positive collective with less forward. The more aggressive negative pitch pump with more forward elevator nets a result of pushing the heli backwards harder.

To start out it's easier to get help with some initial speed and keep the heli with high tilt at the highest point and flat at the lowest point. The better you get at it the more spectacular it will be if you keep the "change" in disc tilt angle (from highest point to lowest point) minimal and don't rely on initial speed in which case you'll have to slam negative collective hard to maintain speed or even speed up. When rotor disc tilts a lot more like almost vertical at its highest point it looks intuitive that heli should indeed travel opposite direction to disc tilt when you apply negative collective. IMO, bunny hop is more spectacular when it gives you the sense of defying physics to accelerate the heli in the opposite direction to the rotor disc tilt.

Here's a short bunny hop with stick-cam in real life (1:15). It's not my best bunny hop but the only one I have on video with stick-cam. Note that heli is actually accelerating backwards with forward tilted rotor disc.

Ok so I've been practicing the "bunny hop" maneuver for about 4 months now and this is the net result. Only forward and backward.. still working on the inverted.

Goblin 570 Practice 1 (3 min 57 sec)

Starts @ 1:35 mark. Simulator training is awesome!

I’m wondering when you do bunny hop you give forward elevator with positive collective and backward elevator with negative collective?

I believe it depends which direction you want to go. If you are doing forward bunny hops then what you said makes sense. Tilt the rotor forward then push up collective - rotate the collective back and then pull down collective.
