Heat sinks & Xtreme motor (again)
Someone pointed out the other day that my tail motor trouble might be caused by having 2 heat sinks with one covering the ventilation gap.
I am also having a mare with main motors, no matter what battery I use (I have 2 x 1000mAh, 1 x 850 and 1 x 800) my flight is over in 5 mins as the heli loses lift and hovers about 1 foot of the ground. So had a look at the motor and yup, noticed that the 2nd heatsink I had on my main motor was blocking the air vents! So I think I have killed 2 motors and have a slightly used spare I'm running now. Means I moving onto the Xtreme 380X - so last chance to tell me, do I need to do anything before using this motor? |

Do not run the 380X with the stock 4in1 until you change the 9T pinion that come with it to an 8T pinion. If you don't you will probably fry the 4in1

How much risk of blowing the 4-in-1 is there? anyway other way to reduce the risk?
I can't find an 8T pinion but found 9T upwards and they are nearly the same cost as a complete stock motor! Think I found an 8T for a reasonable price, hopefully it will fit... Last edited by toonttm; 04-28-2011 at 02:49 AM.. |

For me it was 15 seconds of risk
Do you use an LBA? Im curious if you damaged your lipos by running them down too low. May bee part of the problem with the 5mins of flight time.

4-in-1 = $90 here, think I might just order another stock motor, dang, that'll make 3 parts in 3 weeks meaning 3 lots of postage fees
Yup, using LBA, don't think it is battery problem (as I have 4). Today the bee wouldn't lift over 2 - 3 feet right from the start, I also noticed today that the heat on the motor was excessive after 5 mins Think another problem is that my 2 spare motors were used so no idea of how good they were originally so maybe a new stock motor will definitely either give me a yay or nay for the cause of the problem(s). |

So went for a driveway hover today. Haven't changed the main motor yet, fully charged 1000mAh 3S. Put it on a timer - 2 minutes of hover and number 8 circuits, no probs, the bee was happy to go high. Had an itchy nose (so after the Bee once chased me (and got me! ) I have learnt to never take my eye of the Bee) I dropped it on the deck, maybe a little hard. Anyway, main motor wouldn't go, tail motor and servos working algud .
So into the garage, removed canopy and battery, plugged battery straight to main motor (yes, removed blades first ) and main motor goes. Replaced battery to frame, canopy back on and back to driveway. Full 5 mins hover, little circuits then bumped the fence, main motor dies again. So visual inspection of motor connections, once again fine but motor very hot. Plugged battery straight to main motor and it fires up... I'm lost.... Can't wait for the new stock motor to turn up. Funnily enough I have a spare 4-in-1..but not game to try that 380X motor, I would cry if I lost a 4-in-1 due to a motor |

It still sounds like it's the motor. Hopefully when you get the new motor installed it will fixes the problem.

Ok...I have read lots of what you guys say and have followed your instructions to a "T"
But, main motors here come with 10T or 9T...I ain't seen no 8T motor since Jim-bob plucked his teeth (with Sara-Janes banjo string) |

Very funny
Here’s were the confusion is toonttm. The stock motor on the Honey Bee V1 and V2 is called a 370 can motor, which comes with a ten teeth pinion. The motor that comes stock on the Esky CP3 is called a 370 supermotor and comes with an eight teeth pinion. The 370 supermotor is a stronger/more power motor than the normal 370 motor that’s why a smaller pinion size is needed.

Thats it...I am now declaring a new law - from now on there will only be one type of heli, one type of motor, one type of servo etc then noobs like me will have a lot less trouble

Ok, in the pursuit of more power, (grunt grunt) and better performance I will overturn my earlier law - however, I will still be pursuing my attending-work-on-friday-is-optional law, seems to be a lot of support for that one.
