Are my packs failing or has my pl8 got a problem?
I have been parallel charging 6s 4000 blue turnigy 40c packs in a combination of ways,
I have all ways treated them as pairs for 12s operation, sometimes charging as one or two pairs occasionally as three pairs , on high power at 2c my set up is PL8 at 24volt with MPA para board and Chargery 1200w 50a power supply on 240v ac Over the last 2 charging sessions the charger is not competing the charge it gets to the last balance part and it just keeps on a low 40-50ma and not tripping to charge complete. I let it continue for 2 hours before manually switching off . The voltage reading was cell1 4.20 cell2 4.17 cell3 4.16 cell 4 4.16 cell5 4.13 cell6 4.15 Tonight I have removed the MPA board and switched the output back to FMA and tried to charge single 6s packs on the single balance board(genuine part) the first turnigy pack on 1c accurate charge for over 2 hours still did not go to full charge I checked voltage again read as above ! final IR reading cell1 2.1 cell2 2.3 cell3 2.1 cell4 2.5 cell5 2.3 cell6 2.1 I cut the charging manually. I took another Turnigy pack and put on charge on one of my old cheap 200w charger it took 35 mins at 1c to complete the charge similar final voltages as first pack. I have just charged a 6s 4000 mah Gens ace on PL8 on single board and faster charge at 2c charge wac completed in 32 mins cell1 4.20v cell 2 4.18v cell3 4.18v cell4 4.18v cell5 4.18v cell6 4.18v IR cell1 1.9 cell2 1.9 cell3 1.9cell4 2.0 cell5 1.9 cell6 2.1 I have verified all cell voltages with my Fluke 73 . All 6 of my Turnigy packs are around 14 months old and have 25 to 30 cycles , all ways recharged to storage after use , normally only taken down to 25% and the voltages read almost the same ! I have 2 Gens ace 6s 4000mah that seem ok at 20 cycles All of the packs still perform well in my TDR I will try some singles in the Logo 500 tomorrow morning to check performance . Sorry to have rambled on but it is late and I have spent the last 6 hours watching lipo's charge and it is boring!! I cannot trust the charger to cut out!! |

Can you perform this test? Charge using Preset #2 (Fast) to charge a single pack (not in parallel). Manually set the charge rate to 8 amps. Do not use the auto charge rates (1C, 2C, or 3C). If you have modified any of the preset settings please report the changes.
If you have the PC connection, I'd like to take a look at the log. I can send you my email address if you can collect a log.

I will run a couple of packs through the Logo 500 as single packs later today and will charge as you suggest and report logs. I have not done this before so it will be a first!
I have got the PC lead and the profiles are factory standard. many thanks for your help. |

Hi Greg I have got 8 flights in today to discharge the packs, I have charged the first one this evening as a single pack .
I have generated the first graph , using the settings you have recomended, I have used the MPA board. I will charge another pack tomrrow evening the same settings but not using the MPA board. I can email if you would like to pm your address. Many thanks Jeremy ps it is heading for midnight here in Blighty! |

Sounds good. I'm PM my address to send the logs. There's no need to charge using the single board (not using the MPA). The test I was interested in is just to charge a single pack (not multiples) which can be done on the MPA.
