Default What alternative 470L motor choices are there?

I am looking at getting the 470L without electronics.
Since I won't be getting a motor, I need to find one.
I was looking at a Hobbywing 60amp V4 ESC, Xnova 2618-1380 with an 11 tooth pinion and around 2500 -2600 RPM head speed at 85% throttle according to MrMels calculator.
Just woundering if anyone has looked at alternative motors?
I'm looking at setting up for sport flying with mild 3D.

Is there some reason you don't want a RCM-BL470MX from Align?

No, no reason at all. I have the stock Align motors on my 450L and 550L, and they give all of the power I need.
Just thought since I am getting the kit without electronics, may as well see what other motor options there are.

Sport and Mild 3d!!! so get the Align with you can do what ever you want and keep the budget low also....

You can go with the Xnova that is used on the G380, but the price is the double...

I thought the kit came with a motor and esc. Both are totally usable and work well enough. The esc does leave a bit to be desired though.

Not really optimal kv on G380 motors, will have to run a really big pinion to get good head speed, maybe 8s

Scorpion 2520-1880 is probably an option, maybe not a huge upgrade from the stocker...

The kit motor is 1800kv so your first choice of 1380kv is way too low unless you know where to get the correct pinion from.

Headspeed with full pack at 100%
1380 x 6 x 4 / 11 = 3010

If the "system" is 95% efficient then you will get 2860.

Now with 80% for headroom as pack discharges the headspeed will be 2288.

There was a link to an airframe only in another thread, it was sold through eBay. Some people buy the full kit and break it down to sell it.

Here's the link. It's sold out now but there be others. http://m.ebay.com/itm/291888453286?_mwBanner=1

I also have a 450l was thinking about using that motor in the 470l. Anyone see issues or know the difference between the motors?

The motor out of the 450l is tiny in comparison to the one in the 470l. I would think that it would be underpowered for the 380 size bkades but can't say for sure.

A bit larger and about 200 watts more in the 470mx... same kv...

460mx will probably work fine for most type of flying

It at least wont be grossly overpowered...

Weights (according to specs) with electronics minus batteries
  • 450L weighs in at 730g
  • 470L weighs in at 860g
  • Goblin380 weighs in at 1075g

So 460mx will probably work for most if they don't go bananas on flight weight weight with the batteries. But I dont really understand why, the more I think about it, even "bare kits" are equipped with 470mx...

No hes doing the old, spare part cost count to get to the price w/o blades, motor and esc. It would work perfect if you assume that the parts added on to the "really-bare-kit" are full spare price and the kit are the discounted part...

It would give you a $130 kit...

If you assume that the parts added (motor esc and blades) are the discounted parts you'll probably end up with a more realistic price for a bare kit...

...so my guess is that if you remove the motor and esc, and get a new price from Align, its not going to drop that much... But it's a good way to convince yourself and maybe the wife that it is basically free
