Default Jetify my Voodoo

After a year long break from RC heli's I'm back with my old Voodoo. I've also switched from a JR 11X to a Jeti DS16.

My setup now:

MiniVbar
Futaba 9650's on swashplate
BLS254 on tail

Minipyro 20-8
Jive 60 LV

4s 4000 mah 20C

My question:
What stuff would I need to use Jeti telemetry on my heli? I've been researching this, and I think the R3/RSW satellite will work. From what I've gathered its got 3 physical channels, but I can use one for PPM or UDI to control the miniVbar. Will I be able to just plug in my 4s battery, and use its remote switch?

Then comes the telemetry problem. I'm torn up between using the Jive because of its internal governor, and maybe the Jlog 2.6 (That also provides the Jeti with its telemetry needs?) Another option is to switch to the Mezon 90 RPM, and use the Vbar gov.

The last option will rule out the use of other flybarless systems, something I still want to experiment with. What is the preferred setup?

The one thing I can tell you right away is that the R3 can be used either as a switch or as a receiver, not both at the same time.

R3 are the preferred choice for helicopter. Vbar users can tell you more on it but I know many here use them with the R3 receiver

I've been searching a lot, but I can't really find why the R3/RSW is preferred over the Rsat 2?

I don't think it is a matter of being preferred they are the same but for a few differences

Rsat2 not available in USA due to FCC not certified, R3 is

R3 has the possibility of PPM and a servo output independent which is useful for other remote function. retracts, gimbal ...

Rsat2 is only marginally smaller than the R3.

R3 can be used as a switch

Pretty much all I can think of as differences.I fly both sides of the atlantic so I have used both, I prefer the Rsat2 in my helis, just because I don't use the extra plugs, so I don't have to wonder if I plugged everything in the right slot.

Outside of the U.S. most of us use the RSat2.

I would add a Jlog (I haven't tried one) or MUI to start with easy to splice in and gives you capacity as well as voltage you can set alarms up to.

I think the capacity is the most important thing, thats what drew me to Jeti. If I keep the Jive thats what I will do.

Thanks for all the help! Now I just got to research a lot of other cool Jeti stuff like a simulator connection. I'm a couple years behind on that part, I never had a wireless sim.

I use an R3 doing Ppm out, connected to the sim controllers input lead

There is a post about that here in this forum

I just searched for the word simulator and you'll find it

I still use a wired connection for my Sim, Jeti make a lead that plugs into the PPM connector on the board and fits into a hole in the front panel after you remove a switch. Works fine and much cheaper than dedicating an Rx to the Sim but it really depends on your computer and screen setup as to if a wired setup is ok.

Yeah, I thought about this solution, but I am using all my switches, and didn't want to out a hole in the back, so an r3 was prefereable

Being on the other side of the big pond, I ordered a Rsat2 for my Voodoo. I guess it will arrive somewhere next week, so next weekend would be a perfect opportunity to remained this heli.

I'm currently running wireless to Phoenix 5, RealFlight 7, and AccuRC.

AccuRC is the only one that doesn't require any soldering or crimping. Just get the Futaba adapter and you have a servo connector with 3.36V power and PPM signal that will run any Jeti receiver fine.

Sim : The DS-16 has a USB connector.
You can fly Heli-X and CGm Next right out of the box and Phoenix and RF with tricks.

ESC : I would stay away from the Mezon for two reasons...weight and reliability.
If the Jive has the same dataport the Kosmik has a JLog 2.6 GW is the perfect solution.
I am running this one in the Banshee and its small and easy.
If you have no data port you should get a SM Modelbau Unisens-E which is a sensor that plugs between batterie and ESC and provides a lot of info to the RSat2.
I am running this combo in my other helis/planes.

I just received my satellites, one Rx and the Jeti USB adapter today, and also the dongle for the sim. It look like I have to do some setup and soldering next friday, when I have time for these things again.

You can also just make an adapter the dongle plugs into, or cut it in half and put servo plugs inline that way if you want to use the other jack later you can just unplug it.

Yesterday I got the Vbar, Jeti and my macbook talking to each other. Now I have programmed the Voodoo, except pitch because my digital pitch gauge had an empty battery. The biggest problem I came across was my macbook and some drivers that didn't properly install. First I couldn't get the Rsat 2 updated because is this, but it turns out that this was PPM output only. No need for an update... Then I had some issues with the Vbar software and my USB port, but suddenly it worked.

Next project is soldering a servo plug to the USB dongle for the simulator. This shouldn't take long, maybe only getting it to work again will...

And the maiden hover is done! First RC heli flight with my Jeti, I'm very happy. Tomorrow I'll charge all the packs and then I'll go to the rc club.
