Smile Scorpion HK3026-1400kv rewind

Picked up this motor in a trade, Perfect condition.

once the heat shrink came off I saw that a few wires were broken and the heatshrink did
fail between 2 leads. there was some fiberglass tubing but way up outside the motor.
bad job scorpion

Factory specs:
No. of Stator Arms ................................................ 12
No. of Magnet Poles .............................................. 10
Motor Wind ............................................ 6 Turn Delta
Motor Wire ..................... 24-Strand 0.25mm (30 AWG)
Motor Kv ........................................... 1400 RPM / Volt
No-Load Current (Io) ................... 3.86 Amps @ 6 volts
Motor Resistance (Rm) ............................. 0.010 Ohms
Max Continuous Current ............................... 80 Amps

the stator came off really easy with the freeze method, I counted 3+4
so really in scorpions terms it was 7 turn delta.

Im shooting for d-lrk y 1000ish kv, but I will test wind first. also the coating is perfect, but if it gets in the way of wire size vs turns I will opt to remove it.

Very nice! Is it just me or do those magnets look crazy thin. Are then recessed into the can?

A turn is a turn! How does Scorpion count turns? I ran into the same thing on my 4020-1350. Its supposed to be 5 turns but turns out it was six.

Scorpion counts winds for 2 teeth, so if you see 12 turn on scorpion specs
It could mean 6t on one tooth and 6t on the other. Or 5+7 or 4+8.

I count per single tooth,
Yeah scorpion is special

This is a 500 motor correct? What size wire do you plan to test wind with?
Do you plan on run this in one of your birds?

Yeah 500 size(425mm blades), i will fit max wire size
I have 20awg to 14awg to try, my guess is 17awg
It may go in a goblin 380, not 100% sure.

Yeah, but only on final winds, just before i reassemble. With test winds I do a quick check with my fluke for shorts.

Ebay has the insulation testers for 50$ now

There is a thin positioning ring for the magnets (if you look closely) that is obscuring the magnet thickness.

I did my quantum rewind while out of home and didn't have the megger. I managed to get a fluke so i tested with it, only to find out i have a short when it met the megger back home...

Were you able to repair the short or did you have to pull the wire out of that phase?

the short was on the corner between the wire and the stator - no repairing could be done there. pulled it out, added paper and re-coiled it. motor is kicking hard...

Stator powedcoat removed, i also chamfer the edges. The plates edges are razor sharp so doing the chamfer is a lot of help to prevent any damage when winding. I will use 20mil nomex for top plates and 15mil for slots.

Next i will make the top plates and figure out the best (thickest) wire size

motor turned out great, 988kv on yge lv90 at 12khz 6s

i am going to finish sealing up the stator , and permanatly attaching the hub. Really tempted to trying this on my x5 with 425mm blades. its the same motor I ran on my x4 a long time ago.

The motor is ready for flight test. The windings came out to 58 grams with 17awg almost twice the weight of the stock wind. 18 awg would of looked a lot nicer but i really wanted to go with the largest wire possible.

Looks great man~! Do you test it without fiberglass insulating the wires and adding bullet connectors?
