Default Os 55 fuel coming out muffler

I bought a nitro trex 600 on eBay.
http://bit.ly/1i0uQjh

I've set the needles anywhere between 1turn and 2turns on both needles. I've never touched the idle screw as it idles perfect. No matter what needle settings there is always a little puddle below the muffler maybe a little smaller than the size of a frisbee. Is this normal. I don't know how to tell if it's unburnt fuel or if it's oil. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

The engine is os 55. Hatori muffler. Trex 600

are you just running the engine on the ground?

the will alway be oil coming out of the engine the entire smoke trail is oil basically.

Have you flown it yet? you need to fly it to see if you need adjustment to your needles I would recommen tossing a new glow plug in their and setting the needs to what the manual says the fly and tune.

Manual for OS engine can be found on tower hobbies and many other place just google OS55HZ or OS55HZ-R if its regulated

yeah your not going to be able to tune the needles at all on the ground but regardless you are going to have a puddle of something on the ground.

with no load overspeeding the engine is a confer so have a tach handy.

I however do spool up "new" heli with no blades to try and catch any weird vies before i toss blades on it.

again set the needles to the stock setting and see how it feels in the air and tune appropriately.

Running a nitro heli without blades is pointless. Without the correct load on the engine there is no tuning that could possibly done. As far as checking for vibes, no good there either. Without a load on it the rpms will be much higher than they should be for a given throttle position.

You can run the heli without blades on the ground just to set your idle screw/mixture - any tuning beyond that will require you to get it airborn.

You can throttle up on the ground with no blades, but do so very gradually and only to get the head spinning. Don't go above 20% throttle - With no load the engine can overspeed very quickly and bad things can happen.

There is no harm in starting it and letting it run for a while before the first flight of the season just to get things warmed up.

I'll do this procedure a few times actually, with a 30 min break in between, just to get a few heat cycles on the engine, tighten up the muffler and engine bolts once they have a little heat in them, etc.

I'll also pump in and drain fuel into the tank a few times, just to get any residue out and get the lines "wet". Especially on new builds.
