Good question!
I have been over 2400 yet myself but with the new gears and fix the tail (it can lockup or stick at higher head speeds) then you can go higher. I am guessing the hard 3D guys will want 2500 or there abouts. Above that who knows until someone tried it! But going higher may not really be neccessary. Bob

Bob:
FYI, official rh headspeed clocked in at 2490-2520 during spoolup tests yesterday. We went to the longer boom (didnt like it too much) and landed to dial in the tail...thats when rain came down, again. cracked the damn grip, so awaiting fresh parts.

I figured the head speed was around there! I had guessed 2600 but 2520 is close enough
I assume this was with the new Gaui motor and what pinion? 24T? Bob

Thanks for your opinion ,Bob. I don't want to see a 500mm carbon flying toward me at about a thousand mph!!! I am shooting for the 2200-2300 area with my 600L motor. I am limiting the throttle to about 80%. Looks good on paper anyway.

I am looking at the Hurricane 550 XES PRO SE Helicopter Combo from readyheli for $459.95
http://www.readyheli.com/204002_Hurr...o_p/204002.htm Wondering if the stock motor and esc will be ok for general flying, since the motor and esc don't come with it ? Thinking of getting a dx7 and ar7000 receiver for it. Any thoughts ? I wanted to start out using my FP pack from my trex 450. Been helping a friend build a hdx 500 heli and its giving me the itch to get a bigger heli. :? Thanks Tom

Tom, Bob has stated in a few threads that the stock gear is just fine for the average flyer. I too am waiting for the SE to be in stock at ReadyHeli....I am hoping they don't sell out in one afternoon

I was not sure if the stock motor would still work ok with the metal head. I am assuming all the metal upgrade that the SE comes with would add some weight to it ?

Its not much weight at all. The stock motor would be fine for sport flying. It give longer flight time too. Its just the the metal parts are not necessary with the stock motor.

Thanks AdrianM.
Are they pretty much just as tough in a minor crash as the metal ones ? Only reason I though about getting the more expensive one with metal is for durability. Also, do you know if the digital servos that come with a Dx7 radio will fix in the Hurricane ? Thanks Tom

For durability you can get just the rotor head top block and blade grips. Nothing else really breaks in the head during a crash.
The 3D guys like the alloy parts because they are stiffer and more responsive. The DX7 Servos fit fine. Thats what Finless is using.

980 kv motor with a 19t pinion will yield approximately 1893 @ 100% efficiency...realistic 95% efficiency will yield a mere 1799.
I do not think you will have enough headspeed for any meaningful flight...check temps when you try it and keep an eye on your motor can. a 21t is better suited for mild/sport flying, and brings you into the 2000-2100 hs range.

Well I did it..All this talk made it too hard to wait on a Trex 500. I ordered a Hurricane 550 from Readyheli.com yesterday and I gotta tell ya, John (I think John was his name) is one hell of a nice guy. I called him today because I needed a few small parts that we required for the hurricane that I did not know I needed.
Well John dug through his new and even his personal scrap parts to come up with what I needed. To me, that is going the extra mile for a customer. It was totally unexpected and way past what most companies would do. My hat's off to ya !! Only wish I had known about your company before I bought my Trex. Rest assured I will be comming back time and time again for my heli purchases. Tom Utley

Just courious, what is the advantage of using A123 Batts on this heli instead of the 2x 3s1p Lipos ?
Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,
it has nothing to do especially with this Heli. It is only the "easyer handling" with this batteries. If you have a right charger then you have a short charge time and this cells are not so "dangerous" as lipo's. i'm sure, if you search for this "batts" in this forum, then you will find a lot of threads.... so it is in the german forums bye Jörg |

Ahh ok..No more power, no more flight time...I think Ill stick with the lipos :-)
Thanks Tom
