Warp Tail vibes. reasons and fixes...
Jeff has an Awesome find here! https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=496689
This doesn't seem to be the issue on my flying warp though. But I bought a SH warp and the slider does have this issue! the last owner had tail vibe issues and this is probably why... Another potential reason? I have noticed the holes in the plastic tail grips elongate, if one side elongates more than the other vibes will develop. I have had around 50 great flights on my warp, apart from slight elevator bobble that the SK540 just seems to have on some helicopters. so i sold that and put a mini Vbar on and now it flys like crap! vibes are way to high for the vibe sensitive vbar, (800). I tracked it to the tail with the spectrum analyzer. With the tail blades off its vibe free! 20 odd on the spec analyzer, but with any set of tail blades its 800+ I have tried the stock, edge, KBDD x 2. Could it be the plastic tail grips elongating unevenly?, The Second hand warp i bought has holes that have elongated much more than my warp. will grips from anything else fit the warp? What else could be the reason for my vibes? |

On my warp it was the tail pulley. Due to the fact that the rolled pin was based to one side and the pulley was slightly warped, it caused a vibe.
I have no fix, I'm gonna try a new pulley.

Warp Tail vibes. reasons and fixes...
Try using a magnetic prop balancer to balance the tail.

Everything else was balanced. I need to get one of those Dubro Tru-spin balancers.

BR - could you simply remove the tail drive belt, and balance the T/R right in the tail case?

OK. Fair enough. I didn't try it. I balanced mine on the Du Bro Tru Spin.

I have a magnetic balancer so I was able to get the grips and hub right on... but it was that damn pulley! Sooo frustrating that it caused my failed maiden.

Once again. Helihavens work is spectacular.
I use the Sk720 vibe analysis to guide me through the Warps tail issues and discovered the reasons the tail vibrates. All addressed in the Warp mod thread. This is pretty much true for all 450s but the Warp has a few issues of its own that are specific. First off. The stock tail boom is too thin and actually transmits harmonic vibes from the heli that end up in the tail. Replace this with the upgrade version. Also look at the tail hub itself as they can wobble badly inside the actual boom if they aren't seated in properly. Second. Tail grips. Half a dozen things can go wrong here. Including molding core shift and having the bearings seat incorrectly to name just a few. Which has one grip rotating out farther than the other or seated at an angle. Plus if the bearings are too sloppy one grip relaxes farther out than the other and induces nasty vibes. Three. The actual tail grip hubs have been seen to be machined incorrectly. Mine was off quite a bit. Not only was it drilled incorrectly but one side of the hub was longer. Four. The tail sliders can lean due to the single sided control ball and how narrow they are. On mine the bearings were sloppy, and they seated in the plastic slider hub incorrectly. When it spun it wobbled and leaned badly. Five. The factory slider control arm isn't seated on the slider bushing at a true 90. So it throws the grips into dual tracking. Six. If the slider bushing is too sloppy the same thing happens just off center neutral and the slider assy chatters. On mine it had two reasons. One, the tail shaft was undersized and the bushing was too loose even when a correct ID shaft was used. Seven. Look at the bell crank. On mine the bearings were sloppy and the mounting bolt allowed too much slop also in the bearing cradle. Plus the bolt itself can lean in the plastic support. The bell crank will now chatter right off center neutral. Eight. Check the width of the tail gear. Quite a few guys including myself found the gear was too wide which forced the CF tail support halves out at an angle. Nine. Check the plastic tail gear. Two things happen here. One, the pin that is pressed in distorts the tail shaft inside the gear so you cant see it but the tail shaft now wobbles. Next, the gear itself is rotating out of round or non concentrically. 10. Loose tail bearings. Add some of the above and the tail shaft leans as the one sided slider pushes it off angle with any tail changes. Which results in large tail vibes as the entire assy vibrates whenever it is moved. This is the short list and I hope this gives you some idea of what to look at.

I just hope all of your CF booms are exactly the same Randy...lol..this thing is EXACT...glad you sent that scrap piece of boom to measure from *grins*
also your insert that the plates bolt to mic'd out at 14.14mm so that is the length of the spacer at the end....to keep it all square...I havent as yet seen any 2 that were the same width where the plates bolt on... |

Looks very good. But if no loctite is needed, then how are you making sure the bolts are staying tight?
