I am triing to get a clear understanding if you are supposed to have a special lisence to own/ operate a FPV system that uses a tx modified to transmit with a one watt antenna. I have Googled a few things and found a GRMS thing about two-way radios on a certain channel range, but nothing relative to model planes or helicopters. Is this a national regulation with local amendments??

Can anyone point me in the right direction. This issue has given me cold feet in buying a nicely modified Tx for sale here. I would like to get a better idea on how to legally achieve this.

You'd need to get a HAM license to legally transmit 1W. It costs $15 bucks and you just have to pass a test with 35 multiple choice questions.

You'll need a license for any power, not just 1 watt or more.

You can't control an RC model with more than one watt. That is where that comes from..
