Having trouble downloading the manual to get the max H.S for the 550u...Just curious about your setup is and what H.S your running on the 550u.
My setup...stock compass motor 4026B-1120kv and using a 12t pinion and stock compass 550 blades
C.C 120HV controller in GOV mode...
Note,,I see a lot of post using a 1100 kv compass motor but this one is 1120kv

I have my 550U set to 2400 at IU2... I am also using a 12T pinion on a Scorpion 4025-1100 motor. With the HW100A V3 ESC, I have IU2 set to 75% to give me a calculated 2400 rpm governed. IU1 is 65% and is around 2000 rpm.

With 4S lipos for low headspeed, it goes up to 2000rpm. When I am hammering it, the ESC gets a bit hot to the touch although the motor remains relatively cool (compared to my other Scorpion motors). I think the ideal pinion size in my case would be an 11T.

I just re-checked my calculation and at 75% flat throttle it is actually 2300 rpm. To me this is fast enough... I tried higher headspeeds (up to 2460) and the 550u went ballistic... However the downside was shorter flight times and cooked lipos. For me 2300 is the key to maintaining the balance between responsiveness and reasonable flight times.

One thing to consider is the blades. Cyclo, the kbdd 550's have a wider chord and a very aggressive weight distribution. I have flown both the kbdd's and the compass blades on the 550u. The kbdd's had similar feel to the compass with about 100 less rpm. I liked 2350 with the kbdd's and 2450 with the compass's. With the 6hvu, I actually found the opposite to be true. The compass 615's feel much more aggressive than the kbdd 620's.

+1 on the blades quinn. I agree that 2300 - 2350 rpm on the KBDDs will not feel and behave the same with similar rpms in a Compass blade. I haven't flown anything but KBDDs on the 550u though so I have nothing to compare with.

On the Chronos the 690mm KBDDs felt similar to the 695mm Cyclones at the same rpm. The stock 700mm Compass felt less responsive but more stable. The blade barks from the KBDDs on both 550u and Chronos are the best though.

They do make some noise, that's for sure. I went with the 710's on my 7hv and love them. I do still enjoy the compass blades and switch back and forth between the 2. The kbdd's made a pretty big impression at rchn3. They looked amazing under the construction lights. I almost wish they made a version that was solid orange on both surfaces. Can't wait to show them off at Othello! That reminds me, I need to get some 360's coming for the warp.

I tend to fly the disk and find the orange bottom of the KBDDs very visible especially when inverted in both cloudy and sunlit conditions. Anyways we have gone a bit offtopic lol.

Savor 1258 Cyclic
Stock Compass motor
Stock Compass Mains
VBar Neo with VBar Control
Pulse 5000 45C

RAM was very, very brave and let me fly his a few months ago.

I would say it is set up just about perfectly.

It was very responsive, quick, yet smooth, and very stable.
