Anyone know of a tail blade that works with the Protos that is not black? Looking for something to make that tail easier to see.

1) Paint the 3K blades a neon color 2) Experiment with cutting the KBDD blades shorter 3) Add some high vis tape or monokote in stripes on the boom 4) Paint the vertical fin neon color

I cut my KBDD blades to the same lengeth as the Protos stock blades. We shall see how that works. Had the same problem on the logo500 until they ame out with shorter blades.

Thanks Bob for the great vids on this. They were a nice companion to building up this sweet heli!
I'll share my modest build tip here (hope it's original). I had difficulty trying to push the landing skids through the skid holders. I found that GENTLE and brief heating of the skid holder with a heat gun allowed the skid to pass through almost like it was greased! |

Bob, did you ever have a chance to test the cut-down KBDD blades?

Yes I did... I cut 5mm off the end and they work great now!

Bob, was this a performance issue or for ground clearance ? Was it a pair of the 3mm-root KBDD blades intended for the Protos or the older 4mm-root ones you sanded down to fit ?

It was the 3mm for the Protos and they were prototypes. I don't know if production version has changed or not. It was a performance thing with the G770 gyro. I couldn't stop it from jerking or wagging in certain moves. To me it seemed it was too much tail for the heli. My logo had the same problem until KBDD came out with shorter blades. Once I shortened these blades the problem was solved on the Protos.

Have you flown the Protos enough to compare it with "the other" 500's now?
Will we see a rewiev?

Ah ha, thanks for the clarification Bob. I completely trashed my Protos yesterday and I think I will get some nice fluorescent KBDD tail blades for the rebuild. The crash was vertical nose down from about 10m up into hard pack dirt. Pretty much everthing forward of the boom block and below the swash was trashed ! Hence I am thinking of swapping to the CF frames.

Oh no, just to check them out. Actually the stock tail blades work fine for my level of flying and survived the crash. I just like the idea of a high visibility tail rotor disk.

All you gotta do is put a stripe of dayglo trim monokote (or similar stick-on) material around each tail blade to create vsibility. It's just about as visible as having the entire disc lit up. You can see it one one of my old King V2 vids, even on an overcast day:
