It doesn't make a lot of sense to dedicate time writing firmware updates for the FT and the firmware we have now, that will once again be incompatible with the feature adjustments and new firmware that is about to be released.

I know that in a forum environment words can get misunderstood.
But...
This statement may not fit with the fact that v3.40 LCD FT software was compatible with 3.43 gyro software.
I know there was not a lot of changes between the 3.40 gyro SW and the 3.43 gyro SW - and I am sure that helped with LCD FT compatibility.

But...
The implications of your statement are there may be BIG changes from 4.00 (or 4.01?) gyro SW to 4.1 (or whatever the release is that supports the FT).
So big, that the 4.0 LCD FT (never released or never created) could not be made forward compatible between a hypothetical 4.00 FT SW and 4.1 gyro SW (like it was between 3.40 and 3.43)

I guess it really does not mater at this point.
Those of us that have the LCD FT are waiting for LCD FT support and it will be here when it gets here.
Those that do not have / don't rely on the LCD FT don't care.

My gut feeling is that there is a higher priority plan to use the LCD FT port on the gyro for the Bluetooth interface. And, the focus is to provide one update the supports both BT + LCD FT.
It sounds plausible.
If true, I would rather get LCD FT SW releases in lockstep with the gyro SW releases. I really have no need for a BT interface to the SK.

Did you notice there is already a "bind Bluetooth on power cycle" function within the newest software? It must be getting close.

I was just echoing what Art himself has already posted. He said they were behind from IRCHA, and were working on the bug fixes and some feature changes for the gyro, which makes getting the firmware for the LCD a "moving target"

One can only assume this means there are some changes that both will need to have made to function together. The best I can remember, there were no major functional changes from 3:40 to 3:43, only bug fixes, tail drift issues with the Black, disconnect issues with the Black, and then trying to get the 540 and the 720 both matched on the same firmware a like they are now, which wasn't the case at one point. There wasn't any reason the LCD couldn't continue to work on 3:42 and 3:43 since there were no big feature changes.

Either way, as you said we will get it when we get it

(I assume next time we hook up our SK's to our PCs and then plug in the LCD panel we will see the update.. the usual routine)

I this both a firmware update for the SK720/540/LCD and a software update? I haven't updated three of my SKs from FW 3.43 to 4.0 yet (I have only done one and it works great). So, to do that, do I need to uninstall V4.02 software and install a new version? If the answer is yes, will my Data Viewer Pro still work with the new software?

Ok, I got home early and updated it. It did not like the first USB cable I used.

After switching units and USB cables I got it updated!

This gives LCD version 4 with unit version 4 with installer 4.02

Just completed (successfully) updating my LCD terminal. The first two attempts resulted in a failure with a note telling me to contact Skookum with the LCD serial number. I tried the update a third time and it worked. I now have the following updates: Software V4.02; SK720 FW V4.0; LCD FW V4.0; and, GPS Module FW 1.08. The 720 now gets mounted on an Align 700E .......my first experience with anything larger than a 500!
