JustPlaneChris, I thought I heard you mention on the podcast that you were using corona brand servos on your mini-p. If you are using those, how are they holding up for you?

About two dozen flights so far (seven just today!) and they are still 100% satisfactory. I've read a few posts where guys have said they work good while they work, then suddenly die. We'll see.... I am shopping for a set of used JR DS285MGs for it in the meanwhile just in case.

I have three 287mg's that I was thinking about putting in; however, the thought of stripping out one-three $50 cyclic servos in a crash doesn't sound all that attractive. Is it common to strip out metal geared servos when you crash a protos 450 or a protos 500?

My only experience with flying a 400-size heli is the blade 400 and those servos would strip if you bumped them. I got pretty sick of replacing the gears on those.

On another note, I saw that HobbyKing.com has the Corona servos for around $5-$6. I used them at one point on my Blade 400 and they seemed fine. It looks like they have a new version, the digital 939mg. At $6 you could pretty much buy a bunch of extra ones and just replace the whole servo in the event of a mishap instead of having to replace the gears.

I'm not sure about the 287MG, but the JR 285MG seems quite bullet proof based on the Rave guys in my club.

I got my Corona servos (929MG) at BPHobbies.com. US company, shipping will be cheaper and faster. $10 and change for each when you buy 4 of them.

I'm still not sure I'd "endorse" them, but like I said... they are still working fine and running cool. One thing to note: Based on the results of another HF'er, I bought ferrite rings and put them in the leads. I just goop'd them directly to the servo case to keep them out of the way. He said he had "bad cyclic behavior" from the Microbeast before he installed the ferrite rings. Apparently these servos are rather noisy from an RF standpoint.
