Default My 700 Pro DFC build questions

So far I only have one question but I'm sure I'll have more as I finish the build.

Are the bullets that come with the Castle 120HV esc supposed to fit the bullets on the 800MX motor? I haven't soldered them on the esc yet because first I wanted to make sure they fit and from what it looks like to me they are too small.
I tried the female bullets from an EC5 connector and they seem like the right size

Which is it?

Most people find that there is no way they can solder the ESC wires (#10) into the size of connector that comes on the motor. I would unsolder (don't cut) the ones off of the motor and then use a quality connector of your choice. I use EC5 without the plastic and then heatshrink them, but CC makes nice ones in 5.5 and 6.5mm too...

Thanks for the replies. I had some spare new EC5's so I used the bullets from those, both on the motor and esc.
So far I have it all built and electronics installed but left the boom and head off until I get the wiring done. I put the CC 120 up front (we'll see how warm it gets next summer) and a full size Vbar on the rx tray in the rear with the sensor up front. I plan to put one sat on the front on the vertical face of the gryo tray and one on the boom right behind the tail block.

Luckily I didn't forget to solder in the HW phase sensor to the motor wires and a single ground wire from the flight pack connections. I assume with running a separate Life pack I'll need that common ground for the Vbar gov.

Already shut down for tonight, I just wasn't into it, been a long couple weeks at work and I just wanted to be lazy today. Plus the high was only 14* F so I'm not in any rush to get it complete, I would rather take my time, make it last and make sure it's right.

I left my main and auto gear out of the Heli until I was done with set up. It's perfectly safe that way. Good luck with your build I love mine

I will just leave the main gear with the shaft through it for now while I do my wiring so I know I clear everything. Then I'll take it back out to set up the ESC and check the failsafes.
Then re-install it and the head and do the rest of the Vbar setup.

Hey Larry I just finished my new 700E Pro tonight. I'm pretty sure everything is done including governor setup and iKon setup. I just used the included bullets, I also thought they were very small but I made it work.

Are you routing the wires inside the frame or outside?

Cool Tesla. I think I'll probably run my wires on the outside of the frame just for the convenience factor. I tried hiding them all years ago on my 500 and it was a pain when I had to remove a servo or do much of anything else so I'm not going to get too OCD about it on this one.

This is your first 700? Let us know how the maiden goes. It's my first one too but it's going to have to warm up a bit before I get the maiden in.

Yep the size of those bullets are joke... I ended up using 6mm scorpion bullets..

With the castle edge no need fir a phase sensor set the aux wire to be an rpm sensor and connect that... msh sell a cable for it into the Ikon...

Yeah this is my first 700 and I am so excited, I just sit and stair at it while it sits on my bench. It will be sad to see the 550 go but this 700 will get all my attention.

I won't be able to maiden it for a while it just got insanely cold here in Chicago and I don't want anything to interfere with my maiden. I hate my self if it wasn't a perfect maiden.

I hope to hear about your maiden soon.

I don't think mine will be anytime soon either. Maybe when it gets a couple degrees above freezing but that might be awhile.

I'm building my first 700 now too. (something to do in winter right?)

I hope this helps people who have been in the hobby for less than three years and don't have everything memorized (like me!)

Be careful with the EC5 bullets, make sure they fit tightly.

If they're loose at all going into the mating side, you're going to have issues in flight.

I use the Castle 6.5mm's on the ESC side. Nice and big, easy to solder, and tight fit.

Ok I have it all done and ready to maiden. If it's above freezing tomorrow I'll probably go out and put one flight on it.

I have a question. Do these links on the head look ok or are they backed off too much? I did the swash links as per the manual and when setting up 0* pitch with the Vbar I had to back the links on the DFC arms out this much to get 0* pitch.

Crap. The picture turned 90* on me. Let me try and fix it.
Well the thumbnail wants to stay 90* off. If you click on the picture to view it in another tab it shows up like it should.

Threads look too exposed. I would lengthen the servo to swash arms about 1 1/2mm to 2mm then set zero pitch.

Agree.

Larry,
You can raise the swash a bit. The allows few more turns in on the DFC links.

I just cranked my neck 90 degrees left

I agree with DD, lengthen the servo to swash a couple turns and take in the same on the swash to grips. I took a close look at Jamie Robertson's 700 and it only had a couple threads showing, so I did the same and raised the swash to get more rod into the links.

Crap, I thought it was cold here in Granbury. Been to Toronto in the middle of the winter and it wasn't any fun at all. Guess that's why I live here in Texas.
