Default good replacement motor for the 500mx?

well after only 12 flights the stock 500mx that came with my 500 kit has taken a crap on me...best i can figure is the bearings are shot....it will only spool to a certain rpm then squeals like hell or sometimes wont move at all and the esc was getting warm with hardly any movement from the motor indicating to me again that something wasnt right on the motor side of things....the really weird thing is that it flew just fine last weekend....sat for a week and then wouldnt work today...realy weird stuff...gearr mesh was spot on and and there no sign of wear on the gear or on the wires as far a short or anything and the oneway bearing is fine as well.... so other than it being the motor bearings im a bit stumped

anyway is ther a good replacement out there that will match the stock motor in performance(dont need anything crazy) or should i just pay the insane $94 and get a new 500mx? rea

You can get a replacement shaft and bearings from align. Or boca have a set of bearings you can order.

+1, sorry to hear it did not hold up better. Mine eats bearings, but it was a significant improvement over the scorpion, so I stick with it. Bearings are easy to change. The kit includes the two bearings and shaft.

If not already noted...make sure ur pinion/main gear mesh isnt to tight. Will eat bearings and shafts very quickly. Happy flying

I have one of these, its pretty darn good too, TONS of power. I had to lower my throttle curves to keep it managable. It runs very cool and seems to be easy on my batts.

Apparently this is due to the bearing not being stuck to the shaft properly and they wear against the shaft. So when you stick the new bearings in, use some bearing retainer or similar.

There is a grub screw inside the motor at the bottom. Be careful when taking it out as the magnets inside can grab it, though a thump on the bench normally knocks it free.

Getting the shaft out can be a hassle. I drilled a large hole in a block of wood and put the shaft into it with the motor resting on the wood. Get a punch (I used a large nail) and hammer and whack the shaft hard from the bottom. It only needs to move around 5mm to become lose but it needs a decent hit to get it to move.

Once it is loose it is easy to remove then replace.

When I change the shaft I have to hit it again? In order to fix the motor?

The new kits come with the upper bearing pressed on, fixing the issue of them spinning on the shaft. Keep the bearings lubed, especially the lower one. I just use blue lock now, easier to disassemble and holds fine.

As with any electric motor, change the bearings as soon as they start to go to prevent mechanical damage to the motor.
