Default Boom Support Brace

I've heard on two occasions now of boom supports breaking in flight, I figured this added security measure should give me enough time to land if one of my supports decides to give up on me.. it only added 12g.

Good question. What is causing the failure? Hard 3D? Poor engineering? Too much flex?
Wouldn't mind hearing from other Xxtreme owners what there experience is.

Hint hint Dave Dahl. Lol

I'd like to see a photo of the failure point as well. The only "brace failures" we've had are from (hate to admit it), not using locktite when we should have, and have one of the bolts that secures the braces to the frame come out, and the brace went through the blades (didn't hurt the blades much at all...they're still in use today).

Other than that, we experienced no issues with the boom braces during over a thousand flights of prototyping.

I just installed these on mine and paid particular attention to this after seeing the post about the failure over on the vstabi forum. I think I can see the potential issue. The struts attach to the boom clamp at such an angle that they can bind when tightened. Mine look OK, but there is no free play of the strut when fully tightened. It doesn't look like it's putting any undue stress on the ball link, though.

I used a 1x3mm spacer between the ball and the boom clamp and it seems to take the stress off the end of the strut link. Click image for larger version
