yeah go with the 13t for 3d. stick with the 12t if you just fly sport.

I used to run mine on Align 6s 2600mah. I got around 6 mins just stooging around doing circuits and some stall turns etc, no 3d whatsoever (Not my thing really) I used to put around 1800 mah buck into the pack.

Then I can a conversation with Mike at Aurorra Batteries (Revlectrics) He advised using a 5s 4200 Mah pack with a 15 tooth pinion, tried this and last night flew for 10 minutes and when recharging put 2100Mah back into the pack. I think I can get near to 13 minutes with this setup. The canopy is a tight fit but once I got the canopy on I heated it up with a hot air blower to loosen it up a bit and its fits fine.

So all in all, I'm very pleased with my new batteries, they acomplished exactly what I wanted and that was flight times comparable with a nitro heli

Hi All would like to find out if 3000mAh 20C could fit into the batt tray without modding the tray.

Yes, but its a tight fit with the stock canopy.

Just thought I'd chime in. I have the Turnigy 2650 pack and it works with the TRex 500esp with no mod. The canopy fit is tight, but it works.

I bet if you would have made an order two weeks ago, you would already have the batts in your hands. Turnigys seem to never be on positive stock but believe me, HC receives constantly new batches! Just not enough to make the stock quantity go above zero.

The only problem I've encountered with the 2650 is that it causes the CG to go forward a bit. I do like the batteries, though. They've got some kick to them.

OK, here is the the quick bottom line to my question.
I just ordered a Trex 500 as my first single blade heli and I'm very new to all of this and this battery issue has me confused (as does most of the heli stuff !) It occurred to me that I'm going to be in need of some extra batteries. The trouble is I'm not at all sure what to buy and I can't spend a fortune on them. I'm 62 and retired and I've spent quite a chunk of change already. I was thinking of purchasing several ZIPPY Flightmax 3000mAh 6S1P 20C. Would these be a good choice for the Tr 500 as to the price and will they fit the 500 without any mods. to the battery tray or would I be better off going with several of the ZIPPY Flightmax 2650mAh 6S1P 30C?

Thanks but, the 3000 or the 2650? You did not state which one.

I have the Zippy-H 3300 Pack. I dont think they sell them any more. Great power and about 7-9 minute flight times if geared right.

I am moving into into some stick banging these days and found the pack to be too heavy for harder 3d but perfect for mild 3d and sport flying. It's also excellent for flying the 500 on windy days. I am actually looking to sell it if anyone is interested. It has about 25 cycles on it and no signs of power loss. $50.00 shipped/obo. The heat shrink has a mild tear from a crash, but the pack is fine and not damaged.

Thanks,

Tim

That what I thought untill a few days ago....maybe they are still available. I just ordered 2 of these http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._20C_Lipo_Pack They are supposed to be Zippy's with a Turnigy label.....we'll see soon enough. They should stack and fit in between the frame on their sides...2 x 19mm = 38mm, just like my Zippy 3300 3s 20C x 2.

let me know how you like those new batteries. i might order some up. i want to get some 6s lipos but at the moment my charger only does up to 5s .
ive also been running 4500 mAh batteries in my 500. but i can only run in a 4s.. i cant figure out how to fit 3 of these bad boys in there. but even on 4s i still get almost 15 min of flight with the gearing for 6s. do you guys think i should re-gear to run the 4s batteries?

I'll let you know. They have been sitting at the P.O. all week. I'm leaving for work early to pick them up today. My charger only charges upto 4s (but, I can charge 4 at a time), so, 3s X 2 works great for me. Also, my 550 mounts a batt top and bottom, so I have to split them anyway (same batts).

So the "Turnigy" (supposed to be Zippy's relabled) are about 3mm narrower, about 8-9mm shorter, with the same thickness. They seem to look slightly different than the Zippy's. It will be some time before I can evaluate these packs. For the most part, I only get to go flying every other weekend....this isn't one of them.

These Turnigy 3300 20C 3S packs ($25ea.) are even cheaper than the Zippy 3300 20C 3S (about $40ea.). My optimism is cauitous that these are as good as the Zippy's...we'll see.....
