Default Looking for a Gyro stabalized heli that can hoist a GoPro

Hello all,

First post here. I just got myself a new GoPro camera and I am looking for a stable heli to mount it to. Here is what I am looking for:

Must be gyro-stabilized
Must have decent outdoor range and flight time
Strong enough to hoist a Go Pro
Cost less than $250

Being able to easily hover and maneuver are of primary importance here. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Would this be flybarred or FBL?
Auto pilot platform?

Must have decent outdoor range and flight time
Please define range and flight time

Strong enough to hoist a Go Pro
450 class is about as small as you would care to go.

Cost less than $250
Unless you happen to have all the extras required to get a bird air borneIE. Tx, Rx batteries etc.
Your budget is going to be a bit tough to handle your request

Suggest you start reading through the forums to see exactly what is available and known flight handling, including costs.

In no way am I trying to be a wise a$$ here, but your requirements Vs. your budget are quite far apart.

I'd suggest a 500 rather than a 450 to do this properly. A 450 will of course lift it, but it's sort of close to the line.

I'm guessing you're fairly new to R/C Helis. I would dig my heals and go through the plethora of information in the Aerial section. Right now the best bang for the buck for newbies getting into RC aerial is the DJI Phantom. It is designed to house a go pro and its easier in learning to fly RC due to GPS and Attitude Stabilizer.

maybe you should look into getting a multirotor and put the gopro under it. that's what i'm working on right now is a dji f450 flamewheel if I can get it airborne and flying right my camera if going to go under it.

If you're not already decent at flying an RC helicopter forget the helicopter and go with some sort of quad or hex rotor.

RC helicopters are designed to get upside down and sideways and cajoling them into being something that they aren't (a stable camera platform) is possible but is certainly doing things the hard way. They are far more likely to reduce your brand new Gopro to subatomic particles than a multi rotor.

The DJI Phantom seems to be easiest buy-in to a Gopro lifter but it hasn't been around for long so there's not a lot of reviews. I went with a DJI-550 and it's been solid as a rock. The GPS option was worth it and the Phantom comes with it. There's a multi rotor forum here you can check out. There's also plenty of competitive products. Just for grins check out the Team Black Sheep Discovery.

Your budget will have to inflate just a tad. You can get under the Phantom's number in the mid 600s if you don't mind a kit and already own a radio and receiver. Then again, the Phantom includes the flight battery and charger which is rare in this hobby.

Pickup a dji f450 or f550 with NAZA and gps. This is over 500 but it will be much better than a heli. Or try a parrot drone for under 500. The heli will be crashed past the $500 point quickly

Check out the information available through http://forums.openpilot.org.

The CC3D board's performance is nothing short of amazing. The price is equally impressive.

And there are guys who are starting to race with quads using that controller. So not only is it smooth, but it can also be fast and precise.

Lots of people building their own, too, at a wide range of prices.
