Default What did you do with your Mini Protos today?

Re-maidened after repairs. All is good. Had to make a couple of adjustments, but now shes flying smooth as ever.

I had another bad heli day in that i smoked my esc on my 550 on the bench, botched and auto with my 600 and had a boom strike, broke the landing skids off my mcpx bl, and my 300x's 7200bx wont initialize for no good reason. Damn im stressed. But my Mini P is a pure pleasure to zip around.

Did six flights with my Mini Protos this Saturday.

Beginning to believe Edge 353's with 3500 headspeed is (too) hard on the thing, did about 40 flights with this combination.

  • Managed to split a 15T pinion, never had this before.
  • Managed to ruin the dampeners, never had this before either.

Must be the increased blade mass, it's significant to say the least.

Used SAB 350's with 3500 headspeed before, never had a problem then.

Finally I´m getting somewhere. This week my Cellpro PL6 showed up after an odyssey around the globe and charging is now a breeze. I just seem to be able to learn something new with 8 packs in a row. Flew 20 packs this weekend and voilá: First controlled inverted bw circles after I practiced them on the mcpx.

During session today some kids showed up with the usual questions, if not a little more experienced (one has already had a FP heli). Nice guys, I asked if they would play video games as this would help learning and they said no, they rather go outside and do something. I did my best to walk them through the ins&outs as I remember how ze German club crowd turned me down when I was a kid. They asked if they could film my flying and at the end they gave me the SD card as a present for the time I took to talk to them. Well the video is unwatchable, totally shaky and the MiniP seems to be made of 10 pixels, but:

Faith in humanity restored!

I've been getting some great flights in with the Mini. Put her in today though. Damage is minimal as usual. Just boom, tail shaft, main grip, tail fin, and shafts.

Heard a strange noise flying the mini pretty hard today.
Listened to that little voice in my head and actually landed to see if something might have broke.

I don't think the belt would have lasted the rest of the flight

I would call that a save.

Always a good policy:
If in doubt, check it out

The other day my P500 sounded a little odd, landed and the motor was seized, bearing failed, don't know how much longer it would have stayed in the air for

Properly would have fried your ESC.

Crashed on the first pack (of 8) tail first while doing rainbows in the wrong direction. Guess I was due, got a little cocky after my latest accomplishments

But after inspection no damage at all? Just pulled the tail blade grips, removed dirt and flew the rest of the session as if nothing happened. OK I was quick with TH and the field is very soft because of warmer weather, but this thing is a TANK!

Edit: Next day, next crash. This time inverted full pos pitch. So far blade(s), one blade grip, probably shafts, cracked but still usable canopy, plastic hook for canopy on the bottom broke off and I heard the one way give up after crash (to low for fast TH). Still minor damage considering the "thud", again the soft soil saved me from worse. Servos OK, BeastX not impaled.

It´s tear down time, it was anyway after 250 flights without maintenance.

Weather is finally starting to get better here. So decided to go for a quick few flights with my Mini during lunch break.

Flying great as usual. On my second battery I was getting abit too carried away with fast piro flips and totally lost orientation and slammed in nose first into the ground.

Damage:
Main Blades, Boom, Belt, Main Shaft, Feathering Shaft, Blade Grips, Radial Bearings in Grips, Top Main Bearing, Both Carbon Frames, Both Plastic Frames, Landing Gear, Motor Shaft, Canopy, Battery, Pulley/Pinion, 1x Swash Linkage, Blade Linkages.

Fun part for one was that the canopy, battery and a chunk of the nose attached to the battery were like 40cm away from the rest of the heli. And the broken motor shaft is a first time for me....

Pics soon to follow.

Even after the many crashes I had, it is still annoying and sad at the same time to crash a heli.

But yeh, pretty much a rekit. Just finished rechecking if I missed anything and what I have laying around, ended up ordering parts for EUR 277 including blades.

Excellent news mate

The YEP is a great ESC but a bit of a monster - good luck fitting it

Yeah welcome to the club, I also saved a used one last summer

If the 2500kv variant of the Turnigy is anything like the 2100kV I have you´ll be surprised by performance, unbelievable for the money. Keep us updated on the servos, been contemplating to purchase them, less than Savöx replacement gears. Be sure to put tape over the circuit board to isolate it from the metal case!

Hey thanks! Already taped it up. I fixed that before i read the comments from others pointing out the problem. Your own QC is really important with the cheaper components.
I have good results from most of the cheaper motors, im sure the H2218 wont dissapoint.
The YEP is really big and heavy, but the nice thing is it has an 6Amp BEC with 5,5V output. Will have to side mount it. That is the compromise i had to make for the price.

The TGY HV servos seem nice, and true speed on the servotester. I am testing one on the tail of a HK250, rigged to a little Sbec i modified to output 7,2V. If it can hold up there, it can do anything. Testflight inbound

Tell me about it - I have 1 on my Gaui 550, 1 on my Protos, 1 on my Tarot 500, and 2 on 450's (including a night-flier ) excellent ESC's - but the 50a is the same size as the 100a (near as damn it)

Today maiden after crash repair. All shafts were straight despite impact head first, canopy was salvageable with some epoxy & rubber strip. After one hour maintenance it flew better than before. Me - not so much, took it veery easy.
