Default 7HV upgrade kit

Hi guys,

i received the upgrade parts for the 7HV yesterday, so i hope i can install everything today and test it tomorrow. Here are some pics of what the upgrade contains :

With the upgrade Compass supplies a stencil to drill some extra holes in the frame just below the belt tensioner. These holes are meant for an extra frame spacer which has to be placed there to make the frame more rigid and to make shure that the belt tensioner will stay in its place. It could happen if you tighten the tailboom down hard the frame deforms a little and the belttensioner is a little off from its original position it, therefor the extra frame spacer is needed to keep the belttensioner exactly where it should be. Compass also supplied the drill the make the holes in the frame. Here's a pic of how it has to be done.

So my upgrade contains the following :
- new stator + 6mm bullets + heatshrink
- new blades
- extra canopy standoffs
- new pulleys
- frame spacer + bolts
- washer which goes beneath the maingear
- 13 tooth pinion
- stencil + drill

The new pulleys have better bearings and the pulleys have a small ridge and a thicker ridge. When these are installed the pulleys should be installed with the small ridge to the upper side.

I'll try to make some more pics with a better camera today.

Grtz,
Dirk

Hi guys,

it took me about an hour to install all the modifications except for the motor change, that's somehting i did yesterday.

So first of all i drilled the holes for the extra frame spacer using the stencil

Supereasy with the stencil and the supplied drill. Below a pic of the installed frame spacer

Next i changed out the old pulleys for the new ones, they are a big difference hope you can see it in the pics below. Here you see the new ones ready to be installed just besides the old pulleys, and installed them into the frame;

Next i installed the washer under the maingear :

Last but not least, i installed the extra canopy standoffs

Voilą, conversion done and ready to be tested tomorrow

Grtz,
Dirk

Hi jhheli,

the extra washer must be mounted beneath the maingear, this way the maingear is a lifted a little and this prevents the belt rubbing the maingear.

Grtz,
Dirk

What did you use to mount your canopy spacers there? mine came with no hardware.

Edit: Never mind I'm an idiot, your picture shows it all .

Yes Azlum,

these are the 3D Compass blades, they weigh about 186 grams each.

Dirk

1. Man - I wants me a set of those Compass blades! I love the disc with a white ring in the air!

2. So, it appears the washer is a spacer which makes the entire rotating assembly sit higher in the frames. This says to me, I will need to re-adjust my servo links, as the swash will now be a couple of mm higher. The grip links are fine. Right?

3. Is this stator the new-new one, or what? I thought it was still in the works...? You got one for field rep testing? I'm cool with that.

Did you have any problems with the new pulleys hitting the boom? I was already having this problem with the stock pulleys I had to pull the boom out (belt pretty tight) to get it so the boom wasn't rubbing on the pulley. The new ones look a tad bigger.

No Chris, the boom is 2mm away from the pulleys, so no problem here !

Grtz,
Dirk

Chris
Just make sure the booms sits flush back into the tail case - before pinning the boom with the 2 screws - I couldnt get the belt to wrap around the auto gear, I discovered the 2 screws that pin into the boom, were stopping the boom from sitting flush into the tail case end - leaving the boom rubbing against the pulleys at the other end etc .... No problems now when correction was made.

Is there a reason why the new pulleys are positioned in that manner? I would think it would be the other way with the thick part above so it forces the belt down and away from the main gear. Then again I may be way off course. Lol

I beleive I should be receiving mine this week sometime.

BM - thick lips down. Slip taper to the pulley body to bias the belt from the top down.

Ah I did mine the oppo site way. I actually did measure them and found no taper.

It has alot of clearence now and ran fine with a test hover. I'll change it only if it does wierd things.

I also measured mine and there was no taper at all. My belt hasn't rubbed since I installed them.

Makes me wonder if the lips are the only bias? A thicker lip on one end would push the belt a 1/2mm or so the other way. I didn't measure. Mine's not rubbing either.

Mine has rubbed once, very lightly, since the upgrade kit.

Yeah it looks that way, that's wh I flipped them around so the pulleys pushes the belt away from the main gear.

I just installed the update kit and it did not have the main shaft shim. I called Mike and he opened a kit at the store and it did not have the shim in the pulley package as well. So if your kit (USA) has a main shaft shim, please post a message in this thread. The pictures posted by the OP is not consistent with what we are getting here. Mike is calling Compass to see if there should be a main shaft shim in the update kit.

I have 2 small shims I pillaged from my Trex 600 parts bin and I am not getting any belt rubbing, even with the old pulleys.
