Not a gawd awful thing!
Have I ever mentioned I absolutely hate winter? Perhaps I've mentioned it a time or two? It's been cold and windy, I mean really windy! I'm on vacation now until the 6th. First time I've been selfish and taken the Xmas holiday off. Usually I give it to the family guys. Figured I've earned it this time. Who knows, maybe I'll do something constructive? Anyway, hope you guys all enjoy the end of the world tomorow!

Well,,, now I'm a little pissed,,,,
here I wake up and everything is still the way it was. I expected to wake up and find the world had ended,,, ran over by zombies,,, something! I mean,,, what's a man to believe in? First Y2J and now this? Oh well, the day is still young, I guess. Maybe it takes some time? Oh, one thing did happen! Not a good day to fly with gps. These's a high solar flair activity.

You didn't run up your credit card bill expecting not to have to pay it back, Tom, or did you now?

That wasn't even all that difficult, Tom. All I had to do last August when I drove with my kids from Cancun to Chichen-Itza was to ask our young Mayan guide how to say in Mayan the old colonial phrase "Are you out of your freaking mind, son? Stop playing with these round clay Frisbee things and get back to work!". We may even be partially responsible for that particular Mayan piece of calendar not getting finished properly adding to the end-of-the-world hysteria

Aw poo. Just put the 450 in moments ago. Still, I've had a good run. Lost count of the flights since the last crash, even though it was but a few weeks back. Fortunately it didn't cost much last time, but it might be a bit more this time, as the canopy is destroyed. I think I might have killed my lipo too, but that remains to be seen, it's a bit bent.
I was coming out out the bottom of a prio loop, or my attempt at one, and lost the plot. That's going in, TH, bang. On the bright side, for the first time today, during piros on both the 550 and the 450, I was able to start keying in on the tail as well as the nose, which was giving me the opportunity for twice as many control points. In flat piros, I can do it in four places, effectively all the way around, but when I'm pushing it over I could only look at the nose, but today I was spotting on the tail too, which felt really good. Clearly, I got over excited, and tried a bit too hard. The more I go round and round though the easier it is starting to become, until of course I screw up and put it in. Never mind. Cheers Sutty

That's bad news, Andy, hopefully the damage isn't too bad...

Cheers Jerry, but I don't suppose it can be seriously damaged, they're just bits of metal and carbon fibre. I used to go to the scene of a plank crash dreading what I would find, and usually finding out that it was terminal. All I did with this one was run over to it to get the power off quick before the servos burned out, just in case. Picked up the mangled mess and walked back inside. Several hours later, apart from the canopy, she's ready and already flown. Since I could only hover under the lights, I haven't really tested her properly, but experience tells me everything is fine.
I lost the boom, torque tube, main shaft, feathering shaft, lower of the two big gears, again, I know, how is that possible, I didn't even strip the maingear, but there you are. The canopy is toast and I have no real spare, but I can throw on an old pos, if I decide to fly tomorrow. The blade grips are now in a very bad state, but repaired. They'll do until the next crash, and I will have a set as spares by then. The main and feathering shafts were really badly bent, and I had to hammer the grips back into shape, and squeeze them in the vice to make the balls grip in the threads again, and yet the blades survived, go figure. One was six inches in the ground, yet they are fine. I gave them a real good bend in both directions to make sure the normal required flex force was still needed, and they were both equal and fine. Battery was well balanced still after straightening, and leaving for an hour. And then took a nice full balanced charge, and after several hours it has only dropped a few hundredths on each cell, and they are still all equal, so I think that it can be trusted. So only two items of high cost really, the canopy, and the blade grips, but as I say I have made the blade grips good for another crash cycle, but not beyond, I can almost guarantee that. So easy to repair, and you end up with a whole new heli, lol. You have to love helis for that. Cheers Sutty

Andrew, that sucks!
What makes it worse is I know how much you hate new canopys! guess you could unbox the new canopy and just smash it with a hammer before you mount it! Kind of take the pressure off of messing it up.

Too right Tom. If they'll fit on the heli and not fall off then they're good enough. One deliberate pre-crash cycle with the hammer sounds a little extreme, but it will certainly receive consideration.
Cheers Sutty

Andy, you can have my old V2 canopy if any use to you? It's the one one the left of this pic. It has suffered some beatings, but it just needs the grommet holes re-drilling and it's good to go!!

Well, I just got a reply to a complaint I made to Microheli about the upgraded flybar for my CX2.
The thing costs about $30/£30 plus shipping, and it lasted well enough until the seesaw hub became worn after many flights, and the flybar itself is bent beyond re-straightening. I explained I was happy with the quality of the product, but I was annoyed about spending another £30 on a whole unit as the individual spares are not available. What is more confusing is they actually sell new flybar weights that are pretty much indestructible. Yet, they didn't sell the flybar seesaw hub and flybar, which are the parts most likely to get damaged. So I put my thoughts in an email, and I just got a response saying they will send me the bits I need FOC So I accepted there offer and asked if they would consider selling them as spares in future

That's good of you Denis, thank you, but it is no problem. I will have the replacement before I'm even back for the weekend, and if I decide to fly today, since I'm still here, I have something that will hold together well enough for four packs.
Thanks again. Cheers Sutty

No worries pal, just glad I could offer at least. Sorry to here about the crash, but sounds like your still making good progress putting more piro's in to the routine I find I'm ok spotting the tail, it's coming out with the nose that still get's me (On the sim at least!)
Well today is finally the day I'm packing everything up for a few weeks. Finally managed to get the builder, gas man and plasterer organised, so definately no heli work from me till the end of the month when I get settled back in here. Managed to get some space organised for a make shift office in the house, so at least I can still be online

Hehe...just ordinary piros are fun on the little HBFP with the rate gyro built into the 4 in 1 and a motorised tail!
Depending on how far into your battery you are, once you stop the piro the heli will continue spinning for anything between 1/2 and 1 1/2 turns! It makes for all sorts of fun watching people dive for cover at indoor fly meets.
