Fury 55 clutch liner
I am having clutch problems and found that my clutch and liner were toasted. The liner is black and the clutch is sprung. I noticed it was messed up because the blades were spinning when only idling, and it would cause the engine to shut down when spooling the helicopter down after flight. I thought it was having tuning problems and then found the clutch was bad.
Anyway, I need to get them replaced, and noticed the price of the liner is 22 bucks. Is there something special about this liner? That's crazy high for one liner. A Trex 700n liner is 6 bucks for 2 liners. Are there any alternatives to the stock liner that are a bit more affordable? Does the Align clutch liner work with the Fury 55 clutch assembly?

I have used different brand clutch liners in different helicopters. Some times the clutch bell is a different size, taller or bigger diam, so just make sure the liner has enough material to cover the inside of the clutch bell. Some trimming may be required.

I'm not certain what thickness the Fury 55 liner is, but the new Whiplash Clutch liner is much more affordable.
http://www.heliproz.com/MA131-10-Clu...info/MA131-10/ I have a Whiplash clutch liner handy, so if you can tell me the thickness, I can compare to the whiplash one. |

mine seems to be about 1.5mm. It would be great if you could tell me the thickness of your liner

Sorry for delay!
The whiplash liner is about 1.66mm. You can shave it down a little using some emory cloth or sand paper. Should work well! |

Heat up the clutch bell and start cutting it out. When installing a new clutch liner people use either epoxy or even JB weld. It not line you want them to come loss. In the past I have found it easier to just replace the clutch bell.

Too bad the clutch bell is 68 bucks, it's not worth it to replace the whole thing. I'll be just replacing the liner
Sooo how do I know what the right gap is for the clutch to the liner? I know for Align heli's people say to use two layers of electrical tape around the clutch. I don't think it's the same for the MA clutch, but I don't know what it is supposed to be.

I should get around to doing this this week, just got the parts ordered, and i'd like to make sure i'm doing it completely right, cause it's not cheap to replace these parts. When I glue in the new liner, should I use one or two layers of electrical tape to make sure the gap is correct? I've also heard of using one layer of tape and one layer of Saran wrap. what do you guys think? I really want to get this perfect. Any other tips you MA guys can give me?

I don't think it's that critical.
On my T-Rex's, I used to use 1 wrap. If the clutch drags too much, you can always sand down the liner a little bit to increase the gap. |

For clutch liner you can go to a good autostore and ask for sealing material like: Garlock, Kilgensil, or Mamusa sheets, they have some time 1/16" or a 1/32" and you will have like 50 clutch liners from there. Always use it at your own risk. But for me just worked great.
