A belt is actually more efficient at high RPM's... has fewer vibrations... and won't break/cost much in a crash.

Ya, the belt doesn't cost much. Its just the other parts that break when your belt give out and you go spinning into the ground.

Belt go out? Belts never go out. Every crash of my 500ESP was horrible for my torque tube and related parts and gears. Every crash of my Outrage 550 the belt (and all related parts) were just fine. I did have a few belts break though.. but that was my own fault... but even then the crashes were minor. I don't miss my 450 Pro and 500 ESP torque tubes at all! A belt will last 500+ flights once you learn the proper tension... and they keep on going even when you do crash within that 500+ lifespan.

Ya, I'm really watching my belt tension now. But if it breaks again, I think I might have to move on.

Yes belts are much better IMO. TT's are what turn me off from so many helis.

Also some glorify belts - I stick with TT. For me it is easy maintenance and great performance.
I had my issues with maintaining belt tension (specifically when traveling world wide and ending up in different climates -> everywhere new adjustments are in order). Screws had been worn out because making ongoing adjustments. For some helis the tail boom keeps shifting in. -> I know it all can be taken care off somehow. Still matter of preference -> who like belt should stay with it but at least no make sound others like being fools since it is not true. Also there are helis where belt systems work pretty well and others where the TT is simply better. |

It’s all personal preference.... I personally don’t like the idea of a belt driven tail so I stick to TT helis. A TT system may be less crash friendly but it also has less variables for in flight failure so it really goes both ways. Sort of like pinch vs. thumb flying, each has its advantages and disadvantages some of which may be user specific. Plus, don’t forget that our helis are designed to fly, not crash... it’s because of this fact that I make my decisions and choose my preferences with a bias to in-flight performance and not so much on crash survivability. If it was designed to crash then it would be a dog in the air. This IHMO is a MAJOR difference between the design of helis and planks and the design of RC cars and trucks.

+ 1 on that, belts overall are fine for some, for me it's outdated now (i don't crash that much anymore).
That's the only part of my Rage550 that just seem so 80s. "I WANT TIPTRONIC, GOD DAMN IT"!

OK Guys..Here is some news that I just received directly from Outrage today while speaking with them...and verified that it was OK for me to post.
The Fusion 90 Prototype will be unveiled at 3D Masters in July...then it at least one prototype will make its way to the US for IRCHA...and I will have it in the Outrage Booth during IRCHA. So come check it out! I am hoping that it is a flying version and that it will be demo'ed by an Outrage Factory Pilot during IRCHA! I am looking forward to seeing it also! |

Slyster, does that mean we will get to hook up finally at IRCHA this year?
Dom, are you going to make it again this year?
