RC Booya canopy mounts and CustomFX canopies are available in the UK at www.stormtrade.co.uk

I got mine delivered the very next day. They also sell a wicked Union Jack custom canopy.

I have been running a set for about a month and my buddy put my canopy on and cross threaded the front 2. I had to order another set last night. I like them enough to keep using them and blow another wad on a replacement set BUT, they could difinitely benefit from a good dose of stronger material.

They are made of extremely soft material and it only takes one slight cross thread and their shot. I don't have a drill/tap set to clean up the threads and figured a new set would do best...that will give me a couple extras for when I crash and destroy some.

My bud, without me knowing, cross threaded one to the point that it twisted off when I tried to take it out and the other was just ruined to the point you couldn't thread it back in. I was shocked that the bolt would break/twist off so easily.

Good product, just a little too soft IMO. I am not too peed off because the canopy holes do require you to work to get a straight shot for the mount. I believe he just quickly felt out contact and wrenched them in. He is used to his mounts which are made from hardened steel and machined threaded screws. No cross threading those guys. Needless to say, putting my canopy on will be my sole responsibility going forward.

Not these ones. I don't know what other mounts might work.

Is it because the center mount is too long for the Trex 500? I am thinking of using only the 2 standoffs and 2 thumb screws. I will use two screws to attach the standoffs to the frame without the center piece. Will it work?

thanks

Current material is 6061-T6 Aluminum
I am currently working on a way to get the parts hardcoated and still keep the price down.

I have the blue set with one screw, i lost one in flight due to not tightening it down all the way, funny you remember how tight you tightened it after you land and notice it missing

*******************************ATTENTION 600/700 Canopy Mount Users******************************************

It is recomended that you clean your canopy mount thumbscrews once for every 10 times you remove them from the standoffs.

Use a 70% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol solution to clean the thumbscrew threads.

This will prevent any buildup on the threads that may cause the thumbscrew to bind in the standoff and possibly break.

If you have any questions regarding this please contact me at booya@ comcast or vist www.rcbooya.com

Thanks for flying RCBooya :

I have been using locktite... Now I do not do that every time but it seems to have helped me.
.
The first time I installed the thumb screws, I put locktite on them to make the threads a little tighter since I heard some had lost their thumb screws. After removal of the thumb screw you will see residue of the locktite in the threads. This stays with the threads for several removals. Not saying the locktite is doing it's locking thing but that it acts like a thread filler and keeps vibration from causing the threads to wear.

After 10 or so removals, I just add locktite again. Oh and I am using blue locktite.

I approve Master Obi Wan's use of blue locktite
