So I made a trade for a used SK540. The owner said it was his friends, and he had a minor tip over with it, but it worked fine.

I'm planning to use it on my new 700, but thought I would test it out on my 300X first, make sure it's working good. I think this was a good plan, cause something is wrong.

First test the heli flipped over because my new elev. servo arm was not clear of the motor

OK my fault, but the strange thing is that when I hit TH, the motor did not shut down for at least 5 sec!

So I get it fixed up and have a couple successful flights, after testing TH 2-3 times. So today I go for another flight & about half way the heli totally loses tail or something for a second! I should have landed, but this is a test bird & I'm not that concerned about it so I carry on flying. Do a couple piro's, seems fine, then I lose control & down it goes, & TH does not shut down the heli!
Light on SK is red, so I'm thinking I need to send this unit in.

Did you go through the throttle wizard in the software and set the throttle high and idle points to your TX as well as the stick calibration wizards? Not being a jerk, but you were tempting fate by flying the heli again after already knowing something was up with the Idle setting. You could have easily tested this out on the bench with no blades, as well as the fail safe settings in the SK before risking it again.

With that being said, its hard to know what happened with the unit. You can't read the logs, but Skookum can for that flight if the logging function happened to be turned on the software. Get with Skookum and send them the file if you have it, and it would be a good first step to seeing what happened to make it take a dive.

Yes I did set the throttle end points, & fail safe, & I did bench test without blades. Not sure if I turned logging on or not.

Maybe a satellite or signal issue? Check the settings in the software, and hopefully logging was turned on.

The only time I had it go completely wonky for me was when a servo was on its way to burning out. It drew so much power Tue so unit went into fault and the heli slammed itself down head first. Any chance electrical noise is getting into the unit? That will make servos act funny (extremely jittery).

Damage in the crash was minor. Plugged in the battery at home, everything is working, tested TH 3 times with blade off & it works fine...

Looks like logging is not on. Can some explain how to turn it on as I can't seem to figure it out.

Servos are brand new, & I'm pretty sure I didn't loss connection with sat.

I see 2 options-

# 1 sent in the unit. Can they test it & find the problem without a log?

#2 Fix the heli, make sure logging is on, & fly until it does it again.

=] vote of no confidence from me, you send it in, SK will take care of it without a log. although you do need to know what the error state was for when it's returned? voltage, RF?

Im traveling and no access to the software at the moment, but I think the logging function is a drop down on the control tab, lower left area. Its risky though at this point, and you may end up with another crashed heli trying it again. I would just go ahead and send it in for evaluation.

The only thing I can find is under the Preferences menu, -flight log replay settings- but it is not in "bold" so when I try clicking on it nothing happens. When I go to -replay flight log- under the file menu, it says there is no file, that the flight has to be at least 15 sec.

I will go ahead & send it in & hopefully they can find the problem.

So after reviewing what Alvin from skookum had to say about my problem, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is most likely the POS stock ESC in the 300x I was using to test the gyro. I am going to set the 540 up in my TT325. If there is an issue, it will be logged, but I'm pretty sure the esc was the issue.
