Default would you recommend the NX4?

Hey Guys,
Looking for a new years project and was thinking about the NX4. I used to fly a 600N, but my 550/700e took over a couple of years back.

I love the electric, but definitely miss nitro.

Wondering if you guys would recommend the NX4? any bugs? things to watch out for? Our field is 100% Align, so nobody to ask there!

Anyway, any hints tips etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Looking HELI model numbers there was maybe 3 releases of the kit, there may not be any other issues.
I don't have the latest kit tho.
Maybe a gaui rep can chime in
Yes I do recommend it,
Always flying mine at 2500 has, a bundle of fun.

I would recommend it for sure. It's an insanely fun little machine. I really haven't had many issues with mine, the biggest issue I've had was the clutch breaking very recently, but it's a cheap / easy fix.

I'd say either put some 473's on it stock, or upgrade the pinion for stock length blades and run 2800+ headspeed.

I absolutely love flying mine.

Go for it, very fun machine. A 500 size flying 'big'. It has its problem but if you get a new kit I think Gaui has worked most issues. The OS37 likes running high rpm so the clutch/clutch bell are taking abuses and vibrations are quite here whatever you do.

Overall, i think the fun factor makes it up!

The NX4 would be a great first nitro and a great model to add to anyone's fleet. First, it's a 500 nitro, that makes rather unique. Second it flies really well and is a lot of fun. I haven't had any problems with mine and run it stock with 430 blades and about 2700 headspeed. Use good electronics and you'll enjoy it!

Matt, have you tried the SB 465s yet? Or will they be too much for the glow motor?

I have and for tight smack, not the best imho, loads the engine. SB 430s better. For big smooth flying they are good and 3d thats not tight and constant. This is with the stock gearing.

My NX4 is from the very first batch. Here are my thoughts.

After a year or so, its still lots of fun to fly and performs well. I have unexpectedly hit the ground twice, not too hard but broke a frame both times. Your mileage may vary. Gaui parts prices seem high when compared to Align. I've never had any issues with the model and it is super reliable. I would not hesitate to buy another Gaui.

Also the OS/Gaui .37 is a super reliable, easy to tune, forgiving engine.

I have a 1st gen kit, and apart from a failed pitch slider (Fixed in the 2nd batch), hitting a tree (Just Blades, Boom/TT, feathering spindle, and mainshaft bearings), and breaking landing struts in the cold (No issues since boiling them). I have had no issues with it at all!

I was quite impressed with how it handled the tree strike actually. no frame damage at all!

this is what i think also. to add....
i have a first batch kit and i also am running it completely stock and i now have around 200 flights on mine. in this time i have replaced the rear bearing once, the clutch once and mainshaft bearings. not bad in my eyes.

Seriously considering it ... I loved my X4II dearly, they are basically the same helicopter with the exception of a few changes from the glow to electric.

LOL ... nitro has a place ... in my case it would be convenient for impromptu flying in my travels without the need to bring a charger and generator.

I'll always be electric first and foremost.

??? I kinda understand what you say and kind of agree and disagree at the same time.....

This video of Dunkan Bossion is with 465mm blades and 19T pinion.
Not sure anybody here can smack as good as him !...
It's all about collective management .... thing that now get forgotten more and more with the available power of electric ....

Dunkan Bossion testing the NX4 in the garden with the new MKS HV9767 (4 min 0 sec)

Nitro has definitely improved my collective management...I can fly an old mCPX V2 with quite some pitch without blowing the tail anymore, I think that is a good way for everyone to check where they are!

Now, the 465mm blades can work for smack 3D assuming your collective mgt is as good as Dunkan so I think not many of us...You hear the engine slightly bogging in the vids, a few time.

Even if your collective management is good you will load the engine and it will bog .... You will never avoid it, it's all about how much time and in which configuration you decide to lad it more ....

Another Dunkan's video with a stock set-up ... don't remember the blade size but I think it was 430mm.
Matt, I've re-read your post and in the stock gearing, I agree with you, it won't be that reactive ... you will need the 19T for something very reactive on 465mm ... 20T is, in my opinion, not needed at all ....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...be&app=desktop

I've been terribly interested by the NX4, BUT all the awful reports I had made me stay away from it ... for the moment ....
Jeff ... build one rapidly then I'll be able to see / test it too ;-)

Loading up without bogging is the key to avoid loosing HS. I can tell you need pretty mad skills to fly the NX4 with 20T and 465mm blades, not impossible but far from my current level! The 19T with 435mm or stock 17T with 425mm are good combo for average to skilled 3D flyers.
